If you want relatively accurate foreshortening, it helps to draw the figure like it was product or vehicle sketch.

To do that, draw the figure in the desired pose from a front and side view. these are your orthographic drawings that will act as the front and side view of your cube.

When you draw your orthographic figures, ignore changes in size due to perspective.

Next, subdivide your orthographic drawings into individual squares )not rectangles, SQUARES). How big or small these squares can be is entirely up to you. If you're more confident, you can use less.

Remember that your orthographic drawings just have proper proportions and anatomy otherwise your actual drawing will inherit the inaccuracies.

For the real drawing, Draw a cube using krenz's methods, and multiply it in perspective enouth to fit the orthogrpahic drawings in.

In krenz' method, there's no EXACT rule for the rate of perspective convergence for the cubes but if your shot is going to be closer to the figure, then use more dramatic convergence.

This all very technical but it produces wonderful results when done properly and after a while, you won't need to draw that much construction (This rule is a given as artists like Scott Robertson, Feng zhu, Krenz himself, Glenn Villpu, all eventually didn't need to use construction as much or even at all. Check out some of their drawing timelapses for proof though for Krenz I think you might need to buy his videos to be sure)

Why not just draw 3 vanishing points and construct the cube that way?

I feel like once you get good at perspective and learn how to draw cubes from all angles it's much faster just to freehand cubes this way instead of manually constructing cubes with VPs, plus unless the perspective is really extreme you'd have to put the VPs really far from each other to prevent them from looking warped.

This isn't really an issue if you work digitally, as you can just place your VPs outside the canvas.

Eh. Point taken. It's still faster to freehand though, especially if you're doing turnarounds like Krenz is. Constructing VPs is the technical way to do it, but Krenz's is more intuitive. Like >>2929365 mentioned, if you train your eye enough you eventually won't need to use VPs anyway.
