I suck at drawing from imagination

I draw from imagination and I draw from reference every fucking day and yet I can't retain shit. Yes, I've studied perspective, yes I've studied anatomy but my memory is just fucking shit.

Saying drawing doesn't require talent is fucking bullshit. One of the things that separate those that make it and those that don't is good memory.

For example, someone with good memory doesn't need to redraw the forearm muscles a million fucking times before they finally internalize.

Fuck Art. I chose the wrong path. Lay it on me /ic/
>>
>>2928555
It's not my fault you're retarded, anon.
>>
Good visual memory is a talent in itself.

Doesn't mean you need it because muscle memory is a thing and if you're throwing fits about needing to work hard by drawing something many times then maybe you should take a break.

Come back when you're more open minded.
>>
>>2928558
Instead of hitting me when i'm already down why don't you help me out. Saying i'm retarded doesn't help.

you are just retarded anon, just like me there's people with talent and better mental capabilities.
It's like being born in a 3rd shithole is not your fault.
But you have multiple options like doing drugs, killing yourself, or watching stuff you like on internet.
It just isn't worth to spend your time on something that somebody else will do miles better with way less effort.
Self pitying won't make you any better so the only thing you can do is give up on art.
>>
>>2928568
Wait until you realize that you aren't all that imaginative and don't know what to draw your waifu doing.

You know what /ic/ FUCK YOU GUYS.

I'm gonna draw 6 hours a day until I can't fucking breathe and when i'm on my deathbed, even if i'm still shit I'll know that I gave it all.

use a reference as a starting point and keep practicing until you've built the visual library to do more completely from imagination. then repeat for what you're bad at.

it's what pros do; read keys to drawing. character design and composition skills also help.

I see through your bullshit.

>>
>>2928654
Do you know how many artists in the beg treads would give their fucking left nut to be where you're at? Some of those people grind day in and day out to draw anything even remotely passable

Fuck off faggot, you don't deserve to waste board space.
>>
>>2928654
Vent more.
>>
>>2928573
>It just isn't worth to spend your time on something that somebody else will do miles better with way less effort.
It is. To better yourself. Learning something new is in no way useless and you should put effort in everything you do.

Never compare yourself to others if you're going to be depressed about it, it's a recipe for disaster. I mean, I compare my art to people I aspire to, but I don't sulk about it. They worked hard to get where they're at. Never underestimate the effort someone else had to go through to get where they are. No one was born knowing how to do anything.

>>2928555
Draw and learn from your mistakes. Draw what you think might be and then compare.

>someone with good memory doesn't need to redraw the forearm muscles a million fucking times before they finally internalize.
It's not the same when you draw them million times in one day and when you draw it once every day in those million days.

Sleep helps memory. You can't say it doesn't do it for you, that's just how brain works.

How long have you been even doing this?
>>
>>2928662
this is exactly the kind of back handed dick sucking he was baiting for. why do you let yourself get played like this?

I feel you, OP. I'm a really slow at progressing even when I'm putting in the hours, because my brain just doesn't absorb things well. On top of that, I have a problem fully understanding how to 'draw', as in, breaking things down and executing them.

Even my 'successful' pieces are done through intuition and not through understanding what I'm doing.

It's genuinely demotivating to the point I'm always on the brink of quitting. I'm truly scared of the idea that, barring death or injuries, there's going to be a day where it's the last time I pick up a pen.
>>
>>2928555
I've been drawing for 12 years ( Actually for all my life) and still suck. But I still love to draw. Glad I kept it as a hobby ... ... and only a hobby.

>>

doing anime is fine, if you want to do that. I recommend trying to apply what you have learned to your original figures/characters.

Try to apply anatomical rules and proportions to the drawings; rinse and repeat until it looks appealing overall.

Man, I don't know if I'm cut out to be any kind of artist. I can only copy shit, and I never even attempt to finish anything I draw from imagination, it's like my fucking brain refuses because it doesn't like how it looks. My friend told me copying doesn't help, and I'm pissed I can't draw my favorite characters and shit without just copying straight from an image.

God damn this is so fucking frustrating, I don't want to give up but I feel like maybe it's just not right for me.

There is an alternative to imagination: Projection.

Imagination is seeing the image in an empty space. Projection it's a process of EDITING external images. Probing and tinkering with the images to see if they work. Just consider how easy it is to see shapes on a perspective grid compared to a blank page.
https://youtu.be/EU6gSMLsCrg?t=5m52s

Many artists know that you need some sort of fuzzy imperfect shape on the paper, like staring at clouds, and then you stare at it until you can see how to modify it to make it looks like something.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDPcSuLe73g
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyfNYyb4Vo8

There are lines that you put down to "test" the shape, and lines that you put down to define the shape.

But most artists avoid this because they feel stupid and inferior IF they don't have the answer beforehand.

And on the topic of feeling stupid, we need to talk about thinking through drawing. Putting things on paper is a psychical form of imagination.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nbmnx0hTPjA

If a carpenter needs to make a table, he makes drawings to figure out were to cut. Engineers, sculptors, psychics, mathematicians, architects, even damn surgeons have to draw.

Not because they are trying to make pretty images, but because those drawings are for understanding. What makes you exempt from doing those?

Sometimes you need to step out of "The" drawing and make little thinking drawings. Orthogonal views and thumbnails to help you invent stuff. A scratch pad to test your colors and shapes before you put them in "The" drawing.

None of these is pretty. They lack perspective, finesse and they don't reflect your skill, so artists bury them. Of course, if other people saw this testament of ignorance, the artist would feel ridiculed.
>"He isn't blessed by inspiration and insight? He has to figure things out? How can he call himself an artist?"
And because no one shares these, there is the belief that artists just somehow imagine all those wonderful things out of nothing.

Are you the OP in https://boards.fireden.net/ic/thread/2875693/ pretending to be another artist again? It's mentally unhealthy to hold an obsession with a mediocre artist who only draws weebshit to the point that you'd keep shitposting like this. If you are truly interested in improving then invest your time into more productive practice. Try out what's listed by >>2933183
