Please complete a study of this Austrian milkmaid.
>>2917102
I don't want to draw anything that includes the word "milkmaid" but doesn't include breasts.
These black and white portraits of pretty girls are getting a bit boring.
>>2919612
Anything more difficult fails though since most d/ic/ks aren't skilled to do anything beyond copy a greyscale simple lighting portrait. People have tried posting more interesting refs in the past with little success.
>>2919614
Doing a master study seems more productive than these when it comes to things like brushwork desu.
>>2919627
Yes, a while back I posted some Sargent's for a study thread and it was reasonably popular. You can try to pick a nice master painting and post it up and see if people participate. In my experience subject matter is important on whether or not people choose to join, so get something with wide appeal.

looks spot on to me
>>2920159
Not bad, but it's a bit sterile and boring. Rather than drawing in each hair strand, why not observe the shapes in the ref a bit more carefully and accurately put in a variety of edges and shapes. You shouldn't have to draw very many strands, and it will look more interesting and less repetitive. Try squinting at the ref to see just the bigger masses.
I think too you can start to play with subtly adding in some design. Emphasizing certain things, downplaying others, tweaking shapes etc.

whoa
>>2920159
Just how do you guys do this. Do you paint on top? Do you start with a Loomis head or is this more on that drawing from the right side?
Is construction even relevant in these kind of drawings? Is construction just a meme and drawing's all about The Right side of the brain?
>>2920608
I don't know about what /ic/ does (sometimes I think those faggots hide their knowledge) but I use the block-in technique that's employed in the Russian Academy. Construction is great in the beginning, especially to understand planes and perspective, but it's like training wheels that's you'll use less as you progress. Once construction is adequately internalized you should be able to visualize and know it through instinct
>>2920608
more info on Russian Academy method??

So is starting with the nose, and drawing the rest of the features before drawing the head wrong?
>>2920627
>>2920636
See >>2917493
Move from the general to the particular, it's usually not a good idea to start with the features
>>2920608
for that drawing, I first constructed a loomis head and then observed the outline of the head to make sure the shape was right. I was drawing it side by side as well. I used a ruler to at least make sure the head was long enough for the reference.
It didn't look correct at first so I shaved down the jaw, raised it, made sure which parts of the face were in line with other parts next to it. Loomis only helped a little desu
I had to lower the eyes, squish the nose, narrow the jawline and approximate the lips in order for it to look correct.
It's a lot of looking back and forth, sand starting off with simple shapes and slowly refining them

It's reassuring knowing that I have the same troubles
>>2917102
>a tone of make up to make her skin look like a piece of paper smooth
eww, I had a girl like that in my high school and it's disgusting
I learned something today. A lot of getting accuracy right is working at the appropriate distances for each problem. you want to get it accuate at every different distance.
>
for example if you zoom the fuck in you can autistically work at getting accurate highlights, but zoom the fuck out to put things in proportion, etc.
>>2924226
firez you're really losing it huh, you cant even paint your references like you use to
>>2922743
You seem to be at an appropriate enough skill level that that shouldn't have exactly been a new thing to you.
>>2920608
Literally don't need Loomis for this. This is just drawing what you see, basic shit. Keys to Drawing can teach you this in 4 chapter, or Right Side of the Brain if you're a pleb. Just draw the lines you see, then add shading by observing the values carefully. It's just having good motor control+observational skills. I'm 8 months into drawing and I've mastered this shit, seriously.
>>2924298
i'm so used to eyeballing shit that i forget that there's tech for everything lmao
>>2924692
show me how you can draw this after 8 months into drawing
>>2924766
I'll make a very accurate contour drawing of OP's picture if at least 4 tripfags reply to my post. Drawing takes time. I'm already being challenged by reddit
>>2926011
I'll also show my process step-by-step, basically what I learned from Keys to Drawing
>>2926011
" challenged by le reddit don't waste my pro time ic !!! "
what are you even trying to achieve
>>2926017
Is it unreasonable for me to expect at least a few people to look at my drawing? I'll gladly spend 3 hours on a drawing to show you guys, I just need to know if anybody's actually looking. That's all desu. I'll also take any serious roasting, I won't mind
>>2926011
Pussy. Just admit you can't do it.
>>2926011
Fourth reply, Do it faggot.
>>2926011
go ahead boi we are waiting
Feedback please? Trying to get better
>>2926137
I absolutely love this, though it seems the hair doesn't quite match the face in terms of texture/detail. Either way, I think it's great.
>>2926857
Hair at the top is the most interesting part. The rest of the hair feels very lazy and like you are just hiding behind soft edges to be "artistic" or something. The edges and simplification on the face can be handled better too, especially the uniform hard edges on the nose/nose cast shadow and the lips. The nostril on the right is really messed up too.
>>2926870
How would you choose to treat the edges on most of the cast shadows and face in general?
>>2926785
I got replies without expecting an audience, just relying on lurkers
I can't remember my trip also. I think this is it
>>2920169
I like the strands, I think if a calligraphy brush was used to make it more fluid and less sterile it could look 1.5x better. But maybe the contrast with the fluid hair and static face could cause some uncanny valley shit i dunno tho
>>2926137
what digital artists are you inspired by?
>>2926428
seriously just grind and draw a bit larger
>>2927432
idk, have a large traditional background. Probably all the meme ones with my own twist
>>2924290
Yeah ... i wasn't feeling so good when i did this
