either image macros or the bizarre running internet jokes based on caricature of internet culture (like the op pic) could be considered art
i think it would behoove you more to look into them as a cultural phenomenon than a form of artistic expression
Interview an oldfag.
Start at researching sites like Ebaums, YTMND, 4Chan habbo raids and how they've evolved from strictly computer cultural, to something more mainstream.
Don't forget the theives who wanted to market off memes w/ watermarks,Tumblr wars, 9gag, so on and so forth
