His right leg should be closer to us to achieve balance. Also just swordsmanship wise he would be drawing the sword and to cut he would be swinging his left foot around to step to give himself leverage for the cut. Mechanically his pose doesn't make sense. Also work on the shading of hials right leg, more in the sense of adding some highlights or reflections tp give it mpre depth. Overall that fucking leg looks so flat compared to the rest of him.
But srsly other than that god damn leg it looks really nice.
>>2906359

Crit this WIP pls.
>>2906373
decent proportions on everything but the rendering is pretty sloppy
>>2906373
Try to think about what is in light or shadow more clearly. If it's lit with a diffuse source then be careful of where you put and shading and keep it subtle.
>>2906365
I'm not sure what you mean regarding the swordsmanship, but I don't really know anything about swordsmanship either. The idea was sort of "wandering ronin* noticing something behind him and looks back ready to defend himself"
And you are completely right that the balance is off.
I tried to fix the leg a bit and give it more shape.

>I actually like this,
Thank you!
>but I guess there are many things that giveaway the amateur-ness of it.
Mind elaborating on that?
>The perspective is really well done however. How'd you do it?
Ehm, I just drew it I suppose. I didn't use any vanishing points or grids. What you see is all there's to it.
The first thing I put on paper however was the sole of the feet and then the spine.
>>2906637
>i just drew it
Come on now, gimme some more.
>mind elaborating on that
Well, the placement of facial features of the cat is one. The hatching is another. choice of tool seems to be ballpoint pen? Amateurs favorite for sure. The sword sheath is extremely black, but that black should be shared in other spots like directly under the child with the GBA? Shoudl be some really dark shadows there too. Those legs look metallic, and should have some darker shadows. Actually if you carry that black over it will probably feel mignola-esque.

this, having sufficient foundation to ones drawing should become like breathing
I have seen people draw as though they were sculpting with solid foundations. They get to the level where they don't even need the foundation line and structure to draw from. They can see it as they draw.
>>2906648
>Come on now, gimme some more.
Here's something similar I began drawing on a few days ago but quickly gave up on. It might help you understand my process.
When I draw people I have something like a basic marionette that I project in my mind which helps me understand how the different limbs can move around in a 3D space.
But a lot of it is just me hoping for the best when it comes to foreshortening. And with the samurai I made it pretty easy for myself and really only put a box on his back that I jammed a bunch of shit on and tried to make the objects follow the perspective of that box.
The cat is absolutely horrible. Also, funny enough, the only part of the drawing where I used a reference.
Thanks for pointing out the hatching. It's an area where I'm lacking and I am trying to figure it out(?).
I do use a ballpoint. But there is a reason. I'm trying to get more secure in how I work to quicken up the pace. Because if I use a pencil I'll spend half the time I draw on re-doing stuff instead of getting it right in the first place.
The sheath being that black was a design choice, but perhaps not a good one.
I updated the image slightly here >>2906413 where I went over some details including the legs.

How do FZD students do so crisp linework? I am 5 hours into this and I am disgusted by my lines, is it just a mileage thing?
>>2906759
Not that bad on the whole. I can see where it can be a bit more cleaner. Just keep at it. It is definitely a mileage thing of just practising it again and again.
>>2906759

Mainly. Actively try to make good lines as you draw and you'll eventually git gud. A bit of grinding on the side helps.

>inb4 nice blog mate
Been drawing for well over 10 years. Drew all the time as a kid. Very shit for those years. Started working a little harder in highschool and even got an internship at an animation studio. All because my art teacher in my final year has a childhood friend who was looking for highschool interns for his studio for a semester.
Going there was great and turned on some lights up there in my brain. Made me understand what I needed to focus on.
Unfortunately I lost the ability to draw from my imagination as I spent a lot of time there drawing from photographs, animated films (the boss of the studio brought his entire collection of animated films), books, etc.
I've been drawing Budd Root's Cavewoman for the last two or three years. Reminds me of Frazetta but a little easier to draw. Plus it gave me an excuse to draw chicks and learn a thing or two. Outside of drawing from photos.
I have an older account with other albums if you're interested:

And if you're brave enough for cringe you can check out a very old and defunct deviantart account of mine:
http://geoxen.deviantart.com/gallery/
Some of the drawings are from back when I was interning. I didn't do a lot of work at that studio. The boss knew that and was cool with it. I did help out on some of their projects, but on the whole they let me draw a bunch and the animators would go over my drawings to help me improve. It was more like going to an artschool than having a job really.
I think I'm done with the figures here, not too crazy about the background I guess. Can I get some general opinions and recommendations for the background?
The hands really eluded me in these two. Otherwise im pretty happy with it.
>>2906924
Gorgeous rendering. How long does that take you and how do you do it?
Pretty happy with this, other than the hands. I was shooting for accuracy. 2 hours from live model.
>>2906927
How large is your paper?
>>2906927
Whoops didnt mean to double post. This one was a little less accurate, but hey thats charcoal vs graphite for you. Also fudged the hips and hands. She did have wide birthing hips, but not THAT wide lol
>>2906930
Dunno i cut it off a roll. Figure is about 22 inches tall
>>2906931
And lastly this one. These were all done yesterday, about 8 collective hours of drawing. It was a good saturday.
No matter how hard i try to avoid it, my portraits are always cartoony. All that infernal anime i watched in the formative years.... regrettable.
>>2906937
I agree, that would definitely improve it. My admittedly lower goals were to place and render the entire figure in an imtentionally compositional way, and also clearly communicate that she was black. I think i did okay.
>>2906939
The mouth is misplaced. The center of the mouth (red) should be on the centerline of the face (green). You can also check by dropping verticals down off the sides of the nose (blue) and comparing that line's relationship to the corner of the mouth.
>>2906950
Thanks for the paintover! I knew something was wrong in the process but i thought it was the nose. Youre definitely right tho.

>>2907070
Nice! I think you can just adjust a few things, it only takes a couple minutes but will help it a lot in my opinion. Basically you are painting everything the same way right now with that square brush, but it is good to paint different materials in different ways. Like the candle is a soft wax that has a lot of subsurface scattering in it causing a really soft soft look, and the square brush doesn't capture this specific quality of the object. I think you can take a soft brush for the candle to get some nicer gradations in there. For the other objects think of these things too, like the lemon has surface bumps on it, the apple has a waxy skin that causes things like the highlight and the little bit of grey along the right contour, the pear has two different local colours in a pattern on it etc. It's good to look for specific qualities of things and try to capture them.

They're not great, but the biggest problem is how stiff everything is, do life drawing.
>>2907601
legs are aight, whole shoulder girdle area feels wrong, the delt doesn't connect like that for one thing (on the sword arm), the triceps should be connecting the upper arm to the torso.
>>2907603

>>2907604
Honestly pretty great, could imagine this in a children's book easily, perhaps a bit scribbly here and there but I know how tricky ink is (I don't have the temperament for it).
>>2907605
Now this is good in certain ways, you've understood SOME principles, bot ignored others like line variation, everything is wavy.
Face seems a bit blobby, even for an anime aesthetic.
>>2907606
Lines very wavy, it's nice to have wavy lines, but offset them with some strong ones. Look up Senri Kita and the guy who did the Thorgal comics for inspiration and edification.
>>2907606
The character's left leg is really weird looking and sort of hovering above the ground.
>>2907639
Agreed, the weight feels off and the character would lose balance. Added to that, to make that left leg work they'd need to shorten the lower half of the leg to showcase the perspective the artist was trying for.
You can tell the left leg calf (lower half) is too long is in relation to the right leg. The right portion of the hip is higher than the left. This is followed with a very similar difference with both knees. But then loses it all completely with the foot at the ankle.

Guys, I am not sure whether I should continue working on this or just move on to another assignment. It's been 9 hours already. I been thinking and it seems I waste a lot of time in my workflow, for example I learned or rather realized that I could have used to brewer method or the uneven number method Loomis talks about in Creative Illustration to save time finding convergence instead of constantly running back and forth to the VP's.
Does any of you know a good source where we get to see the workflow of a FZD student while doing a construction exercise? And also, any sources for learning the type of presentation they do?
Thanks
>>2907657
Hm, sometimes I finish paintings in one go but as I work outdoors that usually isn't an option, I get your point about leaving highlights to the last, most books advise that.
Here's my finished stuff - http://dalkins-art.tumblr.com/
I think I'm slowly improving.
>>2907662
The front seems way too wide. Have you made propoprtions by using a grid of squares?
>>2907672
Yeah, it's too wide compared to the original tractor, the seat/cabin area is not the right proportion either. I failed to capture the proportions, realized that two hours in and decided to continue anyway just to practice finding my way through perspective. I am not sure that was a good decision now.
Or did you meant the front thingy? (Not sure what that is called)
>>2907681
yeah I mean the front of the tractor is too wide

Thanks! I tried again with your and others advice in mind. I think its an improvement. 3 hours from a live model.
I like your sketch! And although it is a sketch, i feel like there are areas (bottom left hair and scarf) which could benefit from a little more care. I see 2 or three lines made where one would probably do the job better.
>>2908364
Not bad! You could take it even further, especally by pushing the values in the hair and legs.
Side note: this probably belongs in either the alt thread or the porn thread. Also i am sorry about your mental propensity towards pedophilia.
>>2908168
You are pathetic. Go work on your drawing until it actually is outstanding and maybe you wouldnt have to samefag to make yourself feel better.
>>2908235
I cant tell if its the way youve drawn the hair overlappingit, but i think that her neck does not properly meet the base of her skull. Too far forward.
Like the way this is shaping up!
>>2907137
Very nice. Two things. The chin area could use some work. Right now it looks too rounded and undefined as opposed to the rest of her jawline. Second and this is just a personal preference but I think your colors veer just a little too cool around the face. Fine stylistically but it doesn't reflect the environment of the subject.
Any advice before the lineart?
>>2908168
Thanks, Anon. But it's not that good man. I really fucked up with the proportions, I'll be working on either a model of a tractor or a P51 tomorrow and will try to make it better.
>>2908432
That Anon is not me man, no sure what's up with you.
>>2908425
I wasn't so worried about the faces (the way you suggest forms utilizing tone rather than lines is top tier) but more the legs and knees could use a little more attention. I remember reading in Henry Yan's book that it's a good "guideline" to put detail into the joints of the human body. That way, it's a nice contrast against the smooth, softer forms of legs and arms. IIRC
As for me I don't really have a good way of indicating such curly hair quite yet. I think I just got frustrated and left it quite rough, which kinda takes away from the focus. Thanks for the crit man. I should be a little more careful next time.

loving the amount of detail you put into this, especially the bow, maybe try thicker outlines for things that mesh together, because the colors are quite similar it does get busy to look at.
>>2908688
if you're going for realistic, id do some portraits stat however if you are sticking to stylistic, what would work well is to make the bow and hair sharper/pointier, eyebrows further down and maybe fill in the shirt and bow. just to make it stand out. >her cheeks are cute btw

>>2909301
Pretty nice. This would look a lot better if you fixed the ugly overlaps of the strokes. Maybe paint more opaquely or blend a bit, or if you do transparent strokes like that organize them in a way that the overlaps add to to design and structure instead of muddying your shapes and values.
>>2909301
Can you teach me to render
>>2909377
Ha, yeah, it still my weakness to go in and clean stuff. Comes down to time spent and patience, like the previous critique. Thanks for the pointers. This gives me two ways to practice rendering, blending versus brush stroke control.
>>2909381
I assume you mean picking the right colour pallette, since my rendering is still lacking (due to not spending enough time).
It's mileage. Still lifes help a bunch, because you can't colour pick. Pick all colour you want to use in the blocking-out stage and then colour pick your canvas. Additional exercises could be painting with 100% opacity (will look ugly, but you'll learn a lot), painting on one layer only (forces you to work from big shapes first, details last) and stuff like that. Do a few still lifes, self portrait and master/photo reference studies a week.
For reference, this is where I started.
I have a question for perspective dudes here. Let's say I determine the size of a square tile on perspective on the ground plane. How can I transfer that same size to the vertical plane? s it arbitrary? Is there a technique to do it?

>>2909533
I am trying to get to a more proportional style of drawing. Anything would help, tear it up if you gotta.
>>2907662
Finish it. It's important that you bring it to a finish. The whole point of all those hours spent is as you realize. To see that you made mistakes and it used up time. Now you use that knowledge to help you in the future. All the pain and torture from such a time consuming assignment is the whole point of FZD's philosophy. By doing this, you won't forget the pain and your body won't either, so you'll try much better to not commit the same mistakes.
There's nothing special to the process, you already are doing it. What they do is set up the points, draw the overall shape with lines then they go over it on a clean copy the actual illustration. This results in a clean and accurate looking end result.
Having taken an art class before, presentation isn't any special either. It's just put your work up and get a critique. If you mean for the projects, it's a bit different. If you mean what you're doing with the construction, that's to do a 3/4th view, remember? You look at references and draw it in this kind of view because it shows the most of the design. If they want a full design, then you have to do the sides, front, back, under, top, etc. You've seen a character sheet right? Like those.
Sorry for not answering sooner. I didn't realize you moved on to the draw thread. I'm usually in /beg/.
>>2909545
Thank you for your response, friend. I agree with what you say, I will have to go back to it and correct the width. I just started a second assignment for a P51 plane and I would like to finish this one first. I have learned valuable things I didn't consider for the Tractor that I will put to use now (Using perfect squares, analyzing the shape with perfect squares and converting those units into perspective).
Do you happen to frequent /ic/'s Discord server? If so, I just joined and might try stick around there for a while!

I did Drawing on the right side of the brain back in 2012 when I was a teen (didn't even finish it) doodled around for 3 months, then kinda got bored of it and left it. I decided to get started on a more serious tone 4 months ago grinding the tough stuff, kinda inspired by Feng Zhu's Podcast, to be honest.
Thanks for helping me out with advice, Anon.
Critiques would be nice, I feel like something's off

Sweet. Thanks anon

Work hard and don't give up. Good luck.
Trying to test out concepting. I just need to know whats working and whats not. What do you like, and what dont you like.
>>2909466
I'm NOT sure if it's correct but I always did this. Draw a parallel to the horizon at the station point and extend a line from the diagonal vanishing point to one of the bottom vertexes of the square, the intersection tells you the height
>>2909737
Makes sense, since we are dealing with a vertical there should be no convergence and the measure from the horizon line should transfer just fine.
Thanks, Anon.
>>2909741
I'm pretty sure it would work in 3pp too since at the SP you get a vertical line no matter what
That said although it makes sense to me I might be horribly wrong so I expect someone to correct the above
>>2909742
Definitely worth experimenting with imo. Gonna go to sleep, will give it a try tomorrow.
>>2909585
Nice colors, but the overall drawing is rellay inconsistent.
Try to draw the figure within the clothes and you'll see the lack of volume

Resized cause my phone doesn't know what a small image is.
>>2909901
I feel that the thighs aren't long enough. Or at the very least there doesn't seem to be any weight to them in contact with the ground. As a result it feels like they're floating off the ground. Especially with the perspective in relation to the hands.
In some ways the legs seem to be an afterthought the more I look at it.

>>2909917
I agree, thanks for looking at it!

Same plant but from a different angle, I'll be experimenting more with this one, when it's dry, which will be sometime next week probably.

This is the second time i draw something, i made many mistakes, can someone red draw this for me pls

Those feet don't feel like they could up the persons weight at all, and are not grounded. Also, before you start doing more finished work please, please show your work that lead up to this.
If you tell me you didn't lay down the ground work and you just drew it straight on with the dress then redraw it with the foundation.
I wouldn't be completely surprised by that, but you're not at the level where you can draw with next to no foundation lines. So don't try and do that yet. Get the foundation layed out first. Also, try and redraw it a few times.
If you need to, isolated aspects of the drawing and do some analysis. I'm not expecting pic related out of you in terms of skill. However, notice some of the iterations Leyendecker plays with. Take that to the next level and draw 5 iterations and figure which is the best version you want to stick with. Then hone that version in a final version.
Then analyze it again, this time by flipping the paper and put it under light and you'll see the most apparent mistakes very quickly. Especially anything related to perspective.

Thanks you for your critism, it rare to see someone like you on /ic/. You save me.
>>2910105
who?
Far from being done with this one, the character is still too bright, and background needs more detail.
Any off proportions with the main body? I get the faint sense something might be off, but I am still working out what it might be. Will be adding the elevators and wings next.
Hello 4chan,
I'd like to get some constructive input about this one.
>>2910340
Honestly it looks like its pretty close so far. Might be off by a slight bit, but I'd have to go over it a little more closely.

There is something slightly droppy about that right eye, but other than that i think its great, man! Just bring that same level of rendering fron the face into the rest of the picture.

I think I'll do one more heavy duty construction where I am fully measuring everything up and then start doing center line/free-hand style constructions, as these are taking me a minimum of 10 hours each and I feel I could be building up a visual library quicker the other way ( this is the second construction in 4 days, kinda slow progress imo since I wanted to do 6 a week) We'll see, I need to think about when I'll start the dreaded 30 hour long project to make a perfectly constructed temple like the FZD guys do.
>>2910809
how did it not attach. my bad folks

>>2910018
Good job anon.
Hey guys! I'm a bit stuck with this motherfucker. I normally just paint portraits and shit like that so making a whole landscape with a character feels a bit overwhelming. What do you guys reckon I should do to make the piece better? Paintovers highly encouraged BTW.
If someone wanted to create a complex scene of let's say, an old abandoned warehouse. Should one start by breaking down references and drawing them into perspective, or should one go straight to analyzing with paint?
>>2911733
Whatever works man. No one cares what you do as long as you get it done. You could trace for all that it matters.
>>2911734
It's no commission, I really want to learn to how to draw environments nicely. But I don't know anything about painting or tone sketching So I guess I'll just go with perspective lineart, but it seems most artists in the industry start with a grid and then jump straight into values.
>>2911733
>>2911739
I'd probably plot it out in Sketchup, Zbrush or Blender first if were a piece for a client. If you just wanna learn shit you can obviosly do it by hand to get more practice. I found these videos pretty helpful:
3D way:

>>2911822
It looks like the guy, the bird, and the background were all painted separately instead of as one scene.
>>2911901
Interesting. Obviously that's true. I just bounce around the image rendering stuff when I see them. How do you think I should start fixing this?
>>2911514
why are you painting over 3d?
>>2912015
I want to learn Zbrush... I could have probably done the character quicker just by painting him and he would work better with the background...
I really want to get into doing concept art for movies and games and shit like that so knowing some 3D is pretty much a necessity nowadays.
>>2911934
Have to make an effort to work on it all as a single image, not as pieces stuck together on the same canvas. Try not to allow yourself to get tunnel vision on any one element at a time, and this includes working on the environment and characters as separate parts. Characters should be painted in as part of the environment, not placed on top of a backdrop. If you treat everything as one big piece instead of a lot of little pieces, it will come out looking a lot more cohesive.
>>2912055
Thanks a lot man! I'll try to concentrate on this while doing the rest of the piece and especially in my next one.
on a alien kick right now

How do I get as good as you?
I want to improve my figures and I plan to do anatomy studies, but that's not enough, is it?

looking great so far! you have a very light hand, which is great but dont be afraid to push those values early on! Otherwise you might find yourself spending hours toning down already established value relationships.

>>2906591

>>2912437
There are frequent breaks. Like every 15 minutes. Because models act like sitting there is more difficult than literally every other job. Very frustrating.
Also yes. I spent less than half the time actually rendering. First 2/3 of the time should be measurements and remeasurements. Which again become very frustrating when the model is in a slightly different position every 20 minutes.

I posted at >>2912827
but I think that thread is dead, I tried to delete the post but the message "something went wrong" pops up.
I wanted to post it here, honestly is not something I just drew, I have been drawing and redrawing this picture constantly since early 2016, and I refuse to move on until I know what the hell am I doing, it just looks very wrong.
>>2910819
I think your feet are at a wrong angle both, they seem to be forced to be in profile view to be easier to draw but it looks odd, well its what "jumps" to me, without photographic evidence, nobody can be sure.
Tried cell shading and failed at light source.
>>2906338
wow am i bad at rendering
any critique?
>>2912995
The colors are pretty dull, I think pepping up the light blue or introducing some warmer colors would be nice.

>>2912987
also what do you mean photographic evidence? if you mean reference. none was used for drawing it
Ripped out the first two pages of an old sketchbook I never really used. Decided to dedicate it to figure / anatomy practice. The first page will be my hand, and the last page will by hand to measure any progress I made.
I think the end result of this drawing is impossible to replicate in life with my own hand, I moved it too many times while rendering and didn't measure correctly.
Trying to get into digital painting.
What's a good brushpack for beginners? I'm just using hard round brush right now. It's fine but doing the fur on his shoulders is gonna be a pain.
>>2914016
Hard round is fine, just try changing some settings for it. You can lower the flow or turn off transfer so that pen pressure affects the opacity. You can also use the hard round with the mixer brush for some softer edges.
first time big (100x70) figure drawing done with markers (promarkers and faber's black pitt SB) quite happy with it (ear is a disaster zone, im aware)
>>2912152
that wasnt really the constructive criticism i was lookin for... some of us aint tracers
>>2914191
Well drawn but confusing to look at. Maybe try grouping you shadow shapes more.
>>2914208
thanks, yeah next step is adding shadows and stuff. it is confusing atm
>>2914211
I look forward to it. I think it's a really cool composition actually, you just need to make sure the values and lighting make it readable. It's also get rid of that little speech bubble in the middle, it really takes away from the scene in my opinion.
Help! I don't know how to rock or even landspace
>>2914252
Your colours are really odd. Maybe check your monitor calibration because it's tinted very strongly a strange greenish colour.
Anyways, I think also you can try balancing your colours, and using more neutrals and greys. Rocks are usually greyish in colour, the sky is often subtle blues or whites or yellows that are all close to grey etc.
I tried just working quickly on top to control the colour and values a bit more. Thinking a lot of where things are saturated and where things are warmer or cooler.
can i get a crit on this? what can i improve on for the future? the lighting conditions changed slightly as i did this over a few sessions, so more obvious stuff like the different lengths of form shadow and highlight placement on the pomegranate, or the brightness of the pepper reflection i'm aware of.
this is about two months in of muh serious practice, dunno if this is reasonable progress. plan to do a couple more of these before trying portraits, figures, and acrylics.
a few q's: will painting color/value studies irl help with digital rendering? i feel like it should be easier going into digital.
also, how do you guys approach planning out values? how would you approach this: for example on the pomegranate there's a clear reflection of the cloth and the "reflection" of its own cast shadow... do you just approach it as if it were a matte surface first and only use halftones, and erase later?
>>2914498
>>2914311
I`m sorry but I much prefer the original...Those colors really push the values, unlike the second one that just seems very flat. Can't say the same for the mountains in the distance though.
Not OP btw.

hi guys, im working on a monster femdom pic
was wondering what pose would fit the minotaur? I started from a doodle and I didn't plan it out very well.
is this furry enough for me to get htat sweet furry commission dosh?
back in the i fucking hate the way i draw phase and i just really want to change so i can be professional one day god it's so frustrating
>>2915296
its a frustrating profession, especially since most artists are perfectionists and never satisfied...
>>2915274
i really admire your line weight, its delicate and controlled. im suggesting the minotaur to be laying back with elbows propped up so he's not completely laying down-also to make more sense, the monster girl or whatever should probably be looking at him, not away and in the distance. Additionally, you said this is femdom which kinda brings to mind a more confident girl... her expression doesn't say dominant....maybe mess with that too, a sly smile or something? keep going! this finished would probably be a good portfolio addition for commission posts for sure
>>2914835
I just attacked it with liquify to make her look more feminine. Rounded the face and jaw, shortened the face, took out some of the width from the shoulders, made the eyes slightly larger.
Unless you meant you wanted to fix the hair so it doesn't look like a wig?
>>2915296
>>2915345
smaller upload, whoops
>>2915274
what is happening here exactly? I mean I can confer that it looks like she is trying to keep (unsuccessfully) the minotaur from eating her out maybe?
Is she supposed to be sitting on his chest? Is she sitting on a platform like a table? Cliff? Chair?
You should at the very least provide in writing an idea of what is happening on some level. A general concept and idea.
I imagine pic related is more or less what you're going for? Its a bit rough, but is it close?

>>2915949
Two things:
1. Flip your canvas to see if facial features are still working. Are they?
2. Turn your image into black and white and see if the forms are still reading properly. Are they?
Your forms should always read even if your image is B&W and your facial features should stay intact even if you flip the canvas. These are just good ways to keep a fresh eye on your image. I like the color palette if it's just an underpainting but I'd also add some more natural skin tones later on... GG anyways...
>>2915984
Thanks man. For some reason I never notice how low contrast my image is while I'm working, not until I'm done do I notice that the values are pretty uniform.
>>2916003
Yeah man. I have the complete opposite. All my shit gets super contrasty and I just give up... Your thing isn't looking half bad though. Just keep at it.
Hello i am new to ic and i was wondering if someone could red line my picture to help me with my gesture(make the pose more interesting) and my coloring technique. I know whats wrong with it but every time i try to fix it it just still looks off. I do look for online tutorials but for some reason whenever i want to do my own coloring/gestures i end up going back into my comfort zone. Please help me out on this and thank you

>>2916225
Looking good so far.
I'm making this pirate ship for a commission but don't have a lot of experience with ships and weapons.
Do you guys have any advice?
>>2916063
The gesture looks fine to me. I don't think it needs redlined. The colors are a little bland, just try messing around with them until you get something you like. The colors are kind of dark too.
>>2906338
When you make the next thread could you please write "draw thread" so it's searchable in the catalog and reduce annoyance and useless threads thank you
>>2914835
It doesn't. Optionally soften and raise the brows a bit but it's not necessary. Get to the details already, the basic shading you've started is not very good, should be more shade near the edges of her face.
>>2916419
pretty cool
- it feels abnormally short even considering perspective, gives it a toy/joke look
- mainstays on sides of the masts? instead of seemingly random clusters of stays
- maybe a more pronounced keel instead of the fat cargo hull, especially considering how it's flying, a hint of aerodynamic streamlined would be cool
