I'm looking at buying a first time lightbox for animation, and know nothing about lightboxes. I'm looking at spending no more than 150$, and I really don't need a high end one for my first. Can anyone point some good ones my way, recommend brands, etc.

I made my own out of an old amazon box, some glass, and a flourescent lamp I got from walmart.

Does it work well?
I made one myself too, from an ikea box, a desktop lamp and glass from two picture frames. Super easy and works very well.
Just gave project of table to some carpenter it will be way cheaper
I bought my table from woodwork company

Can get a really hot though. I put some aluminum foil around the insides to reflect more light as well.

Was never able to find one in my corner of the world so i just built one.
There are tutorials online and the materials are cheep.
I know it seems daunting if you've never built anything but all you need are the materials, a circular saw, a drill and a screw driver.
And a bit of heart helps as well as with anything in art?
The pins are something you'll need to order off line though no matter where you live.

You'll probably be better served by taking more drawing and figure drawing study classes.
I used a glass table and a small desk lamp last time I needed one.
I DIY'd one from an old picture frame with plastic "glass" and a flash light.
It's pretty shit, but does what it's supposed to.
Spend the money on beer goggles instead.

There are guides online on how to make them. Students make and sell cool portable ones at my college for like €60 each

There are 4W diodes that are literally cold after hours of work, 400lkm, 4 wat, which is bright enough but can always go brighter.
Or
G27, 10W and 810lm for example.
It will be barely warm to the touch after hours of work.

Just make one, hit the local Radioshack and get yourself some LEDs and a matte PVC board, or something similar. Frosted Glass works too.
You can purchase the drawing surface and have the rest of the box built based off of that.
