I have 1.8k not a big deal at all. I got 3 commissions on deviantart and there I only have 800. On Tumblr I only get unsolicited requests to draw for free and questions from time to time . I'm not bothered by the latter though

If you are half-decent and draw fanart and/or lewds, you should get 1k followers easily.

Just post often (both sketches and complete pieces), reblog from a few other artists you like (but not too many 3-4 a week is plenty) tag things (reblogs too, and leave nice comments on stuff you like) and stay away from politics, drama and random nonsense and you should be fine.

I draw very niche fanart, some lewd but most clean and I have 2400+ followers after a couple of years. Now, posting a lot of clean stuff and lewds mixed together is not ideal, I'd actually advice you to make to separate accounts if you aim to get a lot of followers. Some only want clean stuff on their dash and some only smut. Then you can flag your porn-blog NSFW, but not your clean blog. I've flagged my one-and-only blog and that means even my clean stuff doesn't come up in searches, so if you'd like your stuff to be as visible as possible without risking Tumblr deleting it, keep it separate.
