Any tips on using dark colored paper?

I bought the 12x18 version of that pad of paper. I think it was kind of expensive. And really small. I hate small paper. I was gonna do some chalk pastels. The combination of smooth surface and the color made it really hard to build up my light values. I think I'm gonna have to use fixative to build up more layers.
What are you going to do with it? Mid-tone paper is a lot easier to work with, imo.

Yes, use Copic Markers for gestures and Fineliners form contour, shadows and texture. Use a white gel pen, acrylic or gouche for highlights.
Dark coloured paper is really nice. personally i prefer to just cover a white piece of paper in graphite and erase the parts i want to be lighter, but dark coloured paper is great if you have some tools that don't work on white paper. the only tip i have is draw, everyday. if you do this you cannot possibly lose.
