What is the ugliest building you've ever seen in your life?

buildings that just SCREAM that they were designed by some rich guys kid with connections and have no merit whatsoever?

I just saw this building (not my photo) and I literally spent 30 mins dumbfounded at how fucking ugly could a building get. its not functional either.
>color
>pattern in wall
>extra corners for no reason
>pseudo-pyramids
>dat entrance in the back
I never thought a building could trigger me, holy shit

Dare you to show me something worse than this piece of trash
>>
>>2899106
Try googling "gypsy architecture". Decadence without taste, and smashing together different styles that totally clash.
>>
>>2899110
saw a few pics, what do these people have against clean walls?
its like every meter of wall needs to have something on it. also lets quadruple the number of pillars and windows cause why the fuck not?

Its as if someone put the idea of a woman that wears waaaaayyyy too much jewelry and makeup, and turned her into a building.

Everything feels so overdesigned... just WHY?
such poor taste

I'd hate to live in a place like that, but I love brutalist architecture as an aesthetic especially now that the buildings are kind of getting old. There's something really appealing about giant blocks of weathered concrete.

I lived in Doha, Qatar for a year working as an Architectural Assistant - pretty much every building there is a giant glassy blocky piece of shit.

fyi this was Souto de Moura, a pretty established prize winning old fuck, not saying that makes his work good. but he's definitely not merit-less.

>pattern in wall
every poured concrete wall takes the shape of its formwork. this guy used textured formwork so the impression of timber panels leave a texture on the walls, deliberate instead of letting mistakes happen.

>extra corners
>pseudo pyramids
>color
in public buildings like this it is also sort of a sculpture not just a functional box. Look at how it sort of looks like mesas or mountains, red earthy land formations jutting out of a flat landscape and reaching up to the sky. Pyramids and ziggurats appeared in most early civilizations independantly, it's a callback to our humans roots of piling rocks up high to mark our existence in the world. Using the pyramid/mountain shape makes the building more monumental, and tap in to the permanent and large, physically and culturally.

Also they are actually lightwells so inside there's this diffused natural light in a place that from the outside would appear to be dark and dense.

I suppose you could still find it ugly but at least try to appreciate that someone took care and thought into this as opposed to all the cheap, shitty appartment towers developers keep putting up in every major city

This is the building for what is considered to be one of the top design/art universities in my country. They're supposed to be like pencils holding it up or something. Looks just as ugly in real life as in photos.

literally only good thing that I find agreeable here is lightwells and something different from major shitty apartments.

The rest seems like pretentious bullshit, it still looks pretty ugly. Horizontal patterns in lower wall mash with diagonal ones and the painting looks more shoddy than artsy.
I get the intention. I just think it failed and could do without that corner in the entrance, that was clearly not necessary
>>
>>2899438
alright sir, you win the prize for ugliest building in thread.

Im sorry I said OP building looks ugly as fuck, this takes the cake. It makes the building at the top look like some fucking masterpiece. Holy shit.
Please do me a favour and tell whoever designed that, if still alive, to kill himself.
>>
>>2899968
Yeah it's one ugly ass building. I always felt the irony that it's a fucking design school makes it so much worse too.
>>
>>2899438
wew what were they smoking
>>
>>2899991
I swear, even though design is quite practical field when it comes to art, the vast majority of people I've met from design school tends to be a empty-headed pretentious fool.

It fits, especially because from experience, its mostly who can sleep around with more people that gets the positions, not who has more merit
though it also relates to the fact that nowadays universities accept every deviantard, there are no standards anymore, art school is full of talentless wacks jacking each other off.

I'd jokingly say that they dont wanna refuse anyone cause they got burned with hitler, but I know its more of a money thing.

>Design a building that could float in an emergency.
If that was the idea, I'd give it top marks except for that silly overhanging roof. On the other hand, that kind of makes it look like it could fly if it had enough thrust and a few of the rooms were filled with helium. The more I look at it the more I think that's a building that could really go places. Pretty deep man.
>>
>>2899277
It has an appeal to you because it's a constant reminder to kill yourself. That's really what brutalism achieves. Disgusting, dirty concrete buildings makes people depressed and devalues land around it. Places with brutalist structures are not places designed for people to live around.
>>
back in architecture school i adored peter eisenmann. i thought he was so pure, so objective. so explorative.

This feels like it's so close to being really cool. Like if they had some better shapes and spacing on things, maybe got rid of lines giving the white parts a tiled look etc. I actually like the contrast of various colours between the white and the slight waviness to it all, but yeah pretty ugly as it is right now and looks out of place with those other buildings around it.

>>2903278
All the other shit itt is created by an architect with a creative vision. That in itself gives them merit.

If you want ugly buildings you need to look after the shit without that vision. The boring mediocrity that's made to please as many as possible while at the same time pleases no one.

I grew up in a post-80s midwestern suburb and feel existential dread around 99% of the architecture here. From the crass faux-style restaurants to the gaudy mcmansions this whole swath of the country deserves to be set ablaze.

http://www.mcmansionhell.com/

The most egregious building I've witnessed is probably the experience music project in Seattle. Frank Ghery is a hack. It's grandiose, with no relationship to it's context. It lacks a sense of scale and overall composition. It's overengineered with excessive style and flourish, which literalizes "music" and "dancing" in an upsetting way.
