Why are there so many chinese artists trained in academic drawing?
The better question is to ask why we stopped....

Because they are used to academic teaching in general. They're in school like 16 hours a day. It only makes sense that art is just another drop of water into the bucket to them.

China never really embraced abstract/modern art as much as most of the West did, and culturally do not value individuality the same way so are more open to academic training than us. While we make our kids play with paint without instruction for fear of imposing upon them and stifling creativity, they make their kids copy casts in pencil and charcoal before even allowing them to touch paint.
They also have a pretty well established academic system in place, essentially the same as the Russian system held over from Soviet times. Communist countries tend to like realistic art for their propaganda posters and for fitting in with their understanding of the ideal, so support that type of training.
All that said, I think a lot of the digital artists you see out of China are basically self taught or were taught by other digital artists online. Some of them probably received a bit of traditional training in school prior, but it's not always the case.

underrated post

because asians take their craft seriously, they know that art, like anything else, has fundamentals.
i don't agree with everything about asian culture but at least they're not polluted with relativism and "whatever you feel is right" that's so rife in the west

not at all
because cultural marxism hasn't intoxicated their education unlike the west
arts in russia or china isnt corrupted by liberals
>chinese artists
>chromatic aberration, dodge and burn tool, blacks and whites for shadows and light, 100 different artists paint the same doll faced girl, 8K resolution and still have blurry textures rivaling bioware characters
Chinese artists are the worst.

Maybe Chinese artists stand out because they have fewer hobbyist level artists to compete for attention with.
There are amazing western artists, but they often get burred by cute shipping or other fan art. Pandering with fan-service attracts more attention than technical skill.
Also, western culture ENCOURAGES this behavior. Not doing something the ideal way is a form of "individuality", which is considered praiseworthy. "You made a thing! You're so creative. Upvote!" There are millions of artists. Technical skill isn't enough to make you stand out.
there are many academic drawing in america, why the fuck are you people complaining

But why are the Chinese trained in it?
>>2897967
It's not as ubiquitous in the US, exists only as private institutions so things like loans or scholarships are not possible, and many of them don't teach construction at all.

Why not?
