what are the best modelling programs and the relative dis/advantages of each?
how are blender, sketchup, autodesk, and modo?
i can already do most perspective by hand, but i'd like a faster alternative. learning 3d programs just seems like a good idea anyway.

i've heard good things of all them but blender is free, so you don't need to become paranoid about the viruses in your pirated software.

Sketchup and Zbrush for basic plotting/skeletons to draw/paint over.

Sketch up is super easy and fast for modeling certain kind of stuff, but once you go outside it intended use case, it becomes cumbersome/useless
Zbrush is the best there is for sculpting, but is mediocre/terrible for everything else.
If you pretend to use 3d for modeling and framing your illustrations (which imo is a great idea), you better use a fully fledged 3d suite, like blender. Is not that hard learning the basics, really.
