Hey guys, if one of my illustrations went to an exhibition on an art gallery does that make me a illustrator? Or just a hack with good luck?

If you sold the idea and story of the illustration rather than displaying it with technique and form in mind, then the latter.

Fake it 'till you make it, OP.

The only thing that "makes you an illustrator" is you saying "I'm an illustrator" and somebody believing you. To by knowledge there isn't an illustrator's guild that jealously guards the title unless you're documented. It's not like claiming you're a doctor or a lawyer.
