I feel extra guilty because I have a couple of high paying clients that love my work. One even wants to buy me a Cintiq.

But getting to work is too hard. I just keep procrastinating. It's not like the work is horribly difficult. I don't know what it is. I keep trying to rationalize things over and over but I can't find any answer.

I think that art is something done emotionally, and business is something done emotionless. I don't know how to escape this.

the squishier you want it to look the more you need to exaggerate the interaction between the parts

It's rendered like play-doh or smth, sharpen your highlights, make it look more moist and shiny.

Also, use different colors, the insides should be pink shifting to sienna, not violet.
Lastly, switch to grayscale and see if your values make sense.

Yea, there's a whole fundamental skill based around the topic called "shape design". A rule of thumb is to make all the shapes asymmetrical and avoid parallel lines at all costs. The reason is to make the eye run through the painting and bounce off its contours like a pinball. Lead the eye, entertain it.

Squishy - you could just make every form that's relaxed a bit rounder at the bottom, but a long term solution is to 'feel the form', imagine how heavy it is and how it conforms to the surroundings.
I suggest Peter Han (or Drawabox) and - obviously - Vilppu.

The same way you emphasise "roundness" in general. Using only round or flowing line loses the form but strategic placement of straight lines helps show the volume of the shape with contrast. "Squishiness" is just an extremity of that, letting that volume snag or be compressed to emphasise the tension of that volume, like the way a thigh might bulge at the edge of a stocking, or how a breast lies flat on the chest and balloons outward.

I tried illustrating it in the quick sketch. The arm is attached to the shoulder blade which in turn is attached to the collar bone. When the arm gets pulled back some muscles start stretching while others contract and grow as a result.

As far as your art is concerned, you need to stop chicken scratching. If at all possible, draw with a single line, rather than retracing your lines over and over. It just looks messy and unprofessional.

I agree that it can be done subtle and stylish but putting down help lines or making an estimated line that doesn't turn out right is often a part of designing a picture and on the finished sketch those will look like scratches. Even something like running over a line at some places to make it thicker.

What I see around here is often somebody posting an obvious sketch and then somebody comes along and complain that it hasn't been cleaned up, as if that should be a worthwhile critique.

There's a difference between sketching and chicken scratching. The latter is usually a result of a lack of skill or confidence, so rather than drawing one or two lines to represent something, the artist draws several small lines or goes over the same so many times that it just becomes a mess.

I see people in books use 'scratchy' lines for the early stages of gesture drawing all the time, and the examples they give of constructing the form in later chapters typically don't erase gestures and add a skeleton and boxes and shit on top of them, leading to kind of a scratchy mess, but like a good scratchy mess because the people making them are good. I'm not good, but I figured that'd have more to do with understanding of form and structure than line quality. Still, I'll try to clean up any studies I post.

the secret to drawing anything attractive is to try and understand why you find it attractive in the first place

breakdown what the artist(s) does in their work(s) that you find appealing. for me personally, what i really like about big just slightly larger than realistically muscled figures is the proportions along with the silhouettes (an how much bigger they are than other characters, mmmmm size differencee), the certain shapes/stylistic approaches to certain muscles

take for example this promotional drawing by bengus of alex from sf3, i really like the way he drew the pectoral muscles here.
note how the pectorals are kind of small compared to the arms, which makes the arms feel huge, yet the pecs are stylistically squished to make them feel wider, the deltoids even overlapping the outer edges to increase this effect which in turn makes them feel bigger than they actually are which makes up for them being smaller while also making the arms as well as the chest region feel larger/wider comparatively

but this is just a very specific insight into how i breakdown a specific artist's work that i like in the hopes of understanding how to incorporate it into my own pieces.

i hope this gives you at least some help in trying to find out what/why you like things and hopefully then work your way towards putting that back into your work

I'm pretty sure I've done the 10,000 hours thing. They could easily have been 10,000 hours of doing something stupid and wrong, and I obviously can't really tell. My art school was adult daycare. I'm not afraid of work. It's just. Logically I must be doing something fundamentally wrong.

the biggest problem I see in (this pic as an example) your work is it being too rough and stiff. it's not just the gesture of the pose. here it's mainly the lineart. you go down on it full force without any subtlety. if you are drawing a nice soft female figure, you want your linework and construction to respect that.
work on your lineart the most imo. build some confidence and especially try to internalize line economy. most of the time less is more. you lack that.

Yeah, I entirely overdo the lines, and they are pretty stiff. I admire looser linework and can never figure out how people manage it; I get lost if I am not defining a form as I work, usually by form-hugging hatching. Maybe I can solve that with better structural studies. The occasional video of artists I admire very much turning out to work very slowly and methodically while zoomed in 200% probbly gave me false confidence in the idea that the slow stiff stuff is a legitimate approach. I'm gonna try turning away from that. Thanks.

IMO your lines are fine it's just that level of detail combined with the thickness of your lines doesn't create a lot of appeal for erotic art. A degree of white space and minamalism creates sensuality and attractiveness imo, even gods of line like Katsuya terada incorporate a lot of white space and smoothness into his drawings

Do any of you do porn art under a pseudonym and also do SFW art under a different pseudonym/your real name? It would be nice to be able to make some money off of perverts and still be able to show your normal art to friends and family without them thinking you're a freak. the problem is not the arms being unable to bend that much back. the problem is the perspective you gave to the forearm and upper arm. you should bring the arms closer to her back and even in that case only the tips of the fingers would be visible.

From the refs the base of the fingers are about at the same level as the shoulder.

Camera is high angle view, and the hands look like its tilted back so at least a little bit more than the base of the fingers should be visible

the problem is that you have no idea how to draw what you are explaining.
you are too much of a scrub to be able to draw poses so complicated. there's too much body parts interaction going on and you don't know how to address it.
first learn to draw properly and then draw this kind of stuff. right now it looks like a pile of crap.
