I hate using it and I think it has a tendency to ruin the texture of the graphite or coal.

Stumping pencils are the WORST because it clogs the pores of the paper and ruins the character of your lines (and to use it effectively you have to use it super judiciously so it doesn't look like you just got tired of shading).
