They are exercises to learn, not finished masterpieces. They are supposed to have errors, it would be more helpful for him if you bothered pointing them out.

I doubt that the OP is the one who did the image, no point in critiquing it. I think it's just not that useful an exercise. Either focus on simpler forms (cube, cylinder etc) and try to get them 100% right, or try to combine/modify simple forms into actual objects (maybe a mug or a simple building like a barn) and try to have them sitting correctly on a ground plane.

Forgot to mention that it's good to try thinking of local values too and try to get at least two in there. So maybe you do a simple barn and silo, and have the walls a deep red, the roof grey, and then some white windows. Or even simpler is the mug example I used, do it in greyscale and make a white mug with a dark grey stripe going around it or something.
