Seconding using hair spray. It's surprisingly really effective.

Hairspray is an option but it will yelllow over time. So a no-go if archival. As for your question OP, i dunno, might want to if you use the softer graphite grades and lay it on thick, definitely should if you use things like charcoal, pastel or media like it.
