What kind of style does retro-future art use? I found some on google images and it has a distinct 50s-looking-aesthetic, but I don't know what you'd call it.

I don't think there's really a name for it. The genre is called Retro-Futurism and the style/aesthetic just looks like a retro golden age 70s type of style.
There's actually a fairly large reddit community that's into this type of stuff. It isn't exclusively about art but more so about the retro-futuristic aesthetic. You might find more stuff there. (/r/retrofuturism)
It's what the 50s thought the future would look like. You can still see the 40s-50s influences on the designs.

Steampunk is victorian era style / Jugendstil, 30ies is Art Deco, etc.

I think 1950s/60s illustration owes a lot to precisionism, it's not as flat though. Not sure if the style ever had a name.
