to anyone posting original designs here - are you children? Or do you just not care about publicly exposing ideas that will get taken and monetised / credited to other people outside of this bubble?
>>2881615
Information wants to be free, so wants art.
Not everyone is thinking in themselves first and thank god it is that way.
>>2881627
So basically you are still living at home, or you are stealing designs yourself.
>>2881602

>>2881637
nope, but I'm not living off my drawings, they are my hobby.
not everyone has a pathetic life like you sorry
>>2881766
And which drawings are they? Have you posted here?
>I have a pathetic life because I am warning people that likely are still in high school that if they post character designs on a public website like 4chan, the people that take notice will not only be composed of other genuine posters just looking to share art, but by people that are looking to steal designs and ideas to make money off themselves
Ok champ.
>>2881770
yes I've posted here, not gonna tell you though and it would not change the point I'm making, which is that not every cares about if his or her "idea" gets monetized. Actually I'd applaud the person who could live off lowres sketchbook drawings published here.
>>2881775
It would change the point, because if you can't actually point out any of your work here, then you are likely someone just leeching, or at best, someone pretending to be an artist, and speaking as one.
Stuff like this:
>>2880840
>>2881171
>>2881150
>>2879415
>>2879397
is character design, which I do not know if its the result of original design or not
stuff like this:
>>2880521
includes some conceptual designs that could be lifted.
I am not talking about sketch book doodlings.
The above artists may not care about losing these designs, perhaps they do it for exposure, perhaps they do not care.
I am here just warning the people that are potentially too young and naive to realise that they are exposing their original work to a global market of people looking for things to rip off, it that will make a difference then great, if not, then great too.
for you to not want me to warn people about this suggests you are actually someone that does this, that leeches, especially if you can't point out anything you have actually posted.
Just disregard the autistic text
>>2881784
Ok I get it, it's okay to warn because indeed concept art should not be published naively orthough nothing here comes even close to professional work. Also the phrase "are you children" is just a stupid insult you can keep for yourself the next time..
This is mine: >>2881602

That aside, it shows the importance of line consistency. Despite the 'scratchy' quality of the linework; it's overall consistency and confidence shift the effect over to style/textural choice as opposed to methodology.
Where it falls short slightly is where it is overworked (the hand)
>>2890027
The creature on the right is cool. Middle one just looks like a normal octopus, one on the left is not a very clear design and I don't really like it.
>>2889507
It's also nice to have everything in one place, chronologically, so you can track your progress. But I do think that people shouldn't be too intimidated to use good materials when they're just starting out (or at least middlebrow materials).
I've been keeping a sketchbook since grade 9 (I'm 30 now) and it's pretty amazing to stack them up and go through them.

learning to draw is literally like learning to see (in 2D terms).
if you have never really done in your life,a lot of the Loomis stuff (and anything similar) is going to go way over your head just because of a lack of experience in simply Doing The Thing.
LEARN PERSPECTIVE FIRST!! Learn basics of anatomy and proportion from the books, but don't just go in willy-nilly into every chapter.
(also: cultivate a collection of artists you like)
>>2894831
except for Fun with a Pencil. Nice beginner's book and it introduces perspective.

I've seen old buildings especially farms with a warped and sloped construction. It just happens over time.especially out in the country. Old farms and such. >>2897322
Hey guy, sorry the sad fuckers dont know shit about art and just want to be dicks like the rest of ic.
In my experience the best thing to do to build depth is to have a high contrast. Look at black/white pictures and notice how high the contrast is for example in the shades and highligts of a hand. Try to emulate that so the birds beak is not just white, but many tones.
>>2897327
Got this one, the style is very different but i gues it's working better isn't it ??
>>2897358
It lacks depth, for example I don't understand where the umbrella is supposed to be. Your shading doesn't really make sense and doesn't give that illusion of 3d form like the above person said.
Set a light source, and try to give the characters and objects 3d form through shading. Maybe do a couple of studies where you don't use lines and just use shading to draw figures. Read loomis's book on faces.
For depth you just simply lack perspective. Read perspective for all its worth and do the exercises. Your table has a different perspective than the people and the reason I don't understand where your umbrella is, is because you kinda just drew it on top without taking into consideration how it interacts with everything else.
In general you're stuck on the symbol drawing phase and lack all of the fundamentals. Read the sticky to get an idea of how to proceed with the fundies. I'd personally go to the beginner thread and read their sticky there but you're good either way. You really need perspective more than anything else so start there.

well, first of all his style is simple, but you still need knowledge about anatomy to show more with less. Yours is wrong in all the places.. use ref at least, of womans torso or something. shadows are inconsistent also. And choosing the exact same subject and similar style isnt rly original

Anon, I would try this:
Begin the animation where the pieces are at the midpoint of this animation. Then move some pieces to the farthest point, and some to the closest (relative to this animations starting point). Then to the opposite extreme; then back to the midpoint for the loop.

the more expensive the sketchbook is the more you'll be afraid to waste pages and it'll stop you from drawing

Forms are confusing
Perspective is fubarred on the bottom cylinder ellipse
>>2906309
Thanks for pointing that out, I try to sketch without guide, grids or references in order to improve. In this one I was trying to use 'imaginary' curved perspective lines to give a bit of a subtle fisheye lens effect, which impacts the perception of scale.

Don't be disheartened. Nice ideas, really nice hair piece, good flow in hair, nicely natural style. Ear is odd. Lips are underdeveloped. Nose is kinda flat, jaw is crazy square for a girl. Still, you've clearly practiced eyes, and your lines are flowy.
Try redrawing it without intense shading and blocked in eyelashes/brows, then repost it for us to critique the anatomy. Breaking it down and removing the 'safety wheels' of eyeliner and brows will help, I love you and want you to succeed.

You should study more construction in my opinion. I think you are too focused on flat 2d shapes as is obvious in the side profiles and the front view has lots of small perspective and form errors on the features. Loomis, Kevin Chen, Hampton, Reilly, maybe even Hogarth would help. Just drawing in more guidelines or being aware of them and thinking in 3d will bring up your work a couple notches.
>>2906336
