I like the amount of work put in, but you could improve heavily by creating focus in the image. The color is all on a similar value/saturation range and the lightings not hitting anything in any important way, nothing stands out. Theres also very little hard vs soft edges. Theres other issues that create this lack of interest visually and make it pretty cluttered, but the value/color choice to divide up the regions of the image are the biggest ones. The one thing that sticks out is the knightguy, but hes doing a really boring pose kinda doing nothing. You could make him sleeping, off the edge, moving his head and side of his eyes to look at the other person, waving outside, alot of stuff.

It looks pretty sterile right now, not just because it's still empty, but also because of the perfectly even ground plane. Try and break things up a little, make the street and shop look lived in and slightly uneven.

Other than that, you got most of the challenging parts figured out already, so just keep at it. It's always good to challenge yourself and bite off more than you are comfortable with.

It's hardly a tutorial but I think it will help a lot if you're wiling to go the more technical route.

If you combine this will scott robertson's methods of creating bounding boxes and perspective grids, you'd get wonderful results imo but only if you wanna go that route

Don't worry anon, I do appreciate the concern but it is true that a sketch can be more correct and appealing than a rendered piece. The big problem with /ic/ is the crab mentality, trolls, shit talking other artists instead instead of putting on the hours and similar shenanigans

A troll was so pissed off with me for some reason that he admitted that he didn't even draw but that he hated my guts ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, it kind of makes me feel bad for him because to this day he seems to persist, to this day he hasn't realized that I will keep drawing no matter what.

Thanks for the comments and remarks. I already fixed some of the lightning inconsistences and went back to normal knees, added some more gesture to the leg and lowered the shoulder, I will be making more adjustments before calling it done.

1 - Kind of boring. There's no design, story, interesting composition, or sense of character.

2 - Bit sloppy at the moment so I can't tell what is happening, but visually it is interesting and has potential. Strongest of the four in my opinion.

3 - Very dull. The helmet/suit design is clunky and not in a good way.

4 - Interesting lighting, but the entire image feels like a ripoff of Mullins' paintings of the Baron which makes me lose interest fast.

I really hate that tumblr style. I don't see what attracts people to it. I used to know so many people that were actually really good artist that I used for inspiration and drive and they devolved to this.

PSA: People please be very organized with your layers, all this time I've been thinking I'm slow af and that may be still be right but this is the first time I do most of the coloring in the same day I finished the line work and I still have to paint opaquely outside of the mask boundaries.

For the bg, I saw this video by Evan Lee (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBUt9tHBw_k) and how created layer after layer almost indiscriminately, very loosely and decided to do the same but thinking about how the bottom layers had to be darker and build up to the highlights

Finally if someone tells you he/she likes your work and wants to commission you, accept and step up to the plate, I turned down most of the stuff I was offered before because I though I was not good enough and my process was very slow but I would have not find out ways to purposedly increase my speed if these were personal pieces. Having a deadline while trying to fulfill the expectations of other by doing your best pushes you to think ahead and consider things you have not done before.

If you want some better ideas for how to use dip pens, go check out Manben (search habanero scans on dailymotion). Watching other people use them helped me a lot. The Asano Inio episode in particular has him using microns and G pen nibs in the same images, so it's perhaps what you'd benefit from most.

For your other pens, I'd just make a test sheet with an example of each them and refer to it when you're debating what to use. Dip pens are good for when you want line variation, microns and such are for when you want a consistent line width. And yeah, most of those pens look to be microns/fineliners, so test their line widths and use them when needed.

I don't do art commissions, but my job is commission-based. Basically the keys here are that you want to be paid before you begin work (a lot of artists don't do this for some reason, which is pretty retarded). When starting out you may have to settle for getting half at start and the rest just before you send the completed image (So they pay half, you send prelim sketch of image, they approve sketch to proceed, you finish image, you receive second half of payment, then you send the completed image).

As for pricing, you need to estimate how many hours you will work on the image and what hourly wage you'll accept for your work. Your first few commissions are probably going to be very, very low paying as you'll be (1) slow at the process and (2) fairly no-name and unlikely to have someone willing to pay high rates. Document how many hours each step of the process takes you and use that to get a better price on the next commission.

To receive payments, you can use PayPal invoices. This lets you write out your terms for canceling the commission and the agreed upon price/content of the commission. The only problem with PayPal is they don't allow adult materials, so make sure you keep any adult content out of the notes (one of the pluses of using an invoice is you don't have the customer writing in "ART COMMISSION FOR BIG BOOTY BITCH" in the comments and getting your account closed). Keep it generic and make a base commission invoice template that you can re-use.

As for communications, you can do email, private message, skype, discord, whatever. Deadlines are something you decide, but you should give the client some idea of when to expect your completed image by. My advice is to only accept payment for a job if you are able to finish it within 2-3 days. If someone is commissioning a lot of shit, break it up into parts and only receive payment for 2-3 days of work at a time. This way you are never suddenly overwhelmed with work.

This is my 3rd and biggest one so far, I accepted the price given at first because it seemed more than fair, someone told me to charge based in minimun salary x hours and this project is giving me slightly above that.

Nice start! This feels like it is very close to being awesome, you are just missing a few small things.

Basically I feel you are overusing soft airbrushes and it loses impact. Try to think about what will make this image be more striking. I tried a little paintover showing how I would treat it.

I started by making the background a flatter tone so it is a dark backdrop for a graphic image. I also avoided overexposing areas in the skin. Then I tried to get the figure to look more mythological and less like an old dude past his prime. I made his hair more intense, corrected some anatomy on the close arm, corrected the posture a bit so he isn't as hunched over, then added some tattoos and jewelry so he doesn't look as helplessly naked. I added a few sparks to the background so the volcano is more active, and added some glowing designs on the hilt of the sword so it reads better.

I'm not OP, but it looks like a photo from mobile. The overhead to resize on mobile is longer than your overhead to download.

Although, I would argue that OP should consider that there is only 1 upload and multiple downloads, so the summation of overhead times per download should be the driving factor to resize.
