Eh, I go to twicsy.com to see people's media galleries even though it gets mixed up with retweets. But I get what you mean, it's gets hard when someone comments on your 5+months old work, though I'm also sure few only goes back to their old work to see new comments.

I still swear by DeviantArt. Its community may be braindead when it comes to critique and such, but there are few sites like it in terms of diversity of content. I find that Pixiv users tend to limit themselves to anime girls a lot, so it may not be for you if that is not your thing or if you want to showcase more than just that.

I have contemplated making a tumblr, but you probably already know why I haven't (pic related).

That's because you're looking at the wrong users.

Majority of stuff I see on Pixiv are of male characters and fantasy/mecha shit, because that's who I follow and that's what Pixiv would recommend me.

The problem with DA is that if you don't follow a certain etiquette, your submission and profile will very rarely be viewed. Wether I post something new everyday or am inactive for 3 months give me the same amount of views. Almost everytime you post something it gets buried under a thousand other submissions within half an hour, and that's for the few people who are browsing newest deviations. It doesn't help that the website gives you no tool to filter the kind of work you want to see (or very little)
