Insects.
I was obsessed with insects as a child, and by drawing them and making paper cut outs I got to "claim" them.
I made tons of paper insects and paper mache bugs.

When I was 13 I wrote a dark 'n' edgy story which I wanted some illustrations for. From that I just kept going.

when I was a kid I read alot of comics, mostly mango because I lived in CA.

Corocoro made me want to become a comic artist, or at least kickstart me into art.

But looking back, the art is really too stylized. It's like those bad tumblr drawings but it's made by japanese people.

Vocaloid, I actually wanted to become a Vocaloid music producer and do the art as a side thing but in the end I got waaaay more involved in that area than the music itself. Hopefully someday I will become a freelance illustrator and have some time to establish myself as a Vocaloid producer, there is too much moe these days and my favorite producers have already bailed out

I can't really tell since I've always drawn, even if it's only doodles at daycare.
I do know that comics like Calvin & Hobbes, Asterix and Donald Duck is what made me want to be a cartoonist. And that's back when I was single-digit age.

I didn't have any friends and was a poor kid in a third world country.

I had a breaking point not too long ago after drawing all of my life, I had no goals and I shut down for months and was really depressed. What got me back into it was new goals, a change of attitude, I tuned out all of the negativity for positive thoughts instead, I changed my friends (they were the drug addicts), stopped drinking and smoking and made myself passionate about art. I have a deep love for drawing and painting now and have been learning more than ever. I really kicked my ass into gear after creating goals for myself, never draw aimlessly, you will get nowhere even if you draw all your life.

I was in 6th grade and ridiculously obsessed with Inuyasha (like you ever see the robot Chicken skit where the dad pretends to go over the top into Inuyasha to get his daughter to stop hogging the TV? I was that level of obsessed only a preteenaged girl so worse almost) and I saw a lot of fanart. One day I saw a really cool one with neat perspective and coloring and it made me pick up a pencil. Years later I found the same drawing and it was honestly a really shitty piece of fanart lmfao. If I cared enough I'd find it again now but I don't.

I'm an old head. My friend Joe and I never actually played, we just bought these books because of the monsters and satanic imagery (edgy). Back then, D&D was all over the news. Possession by playing the game, dealing with real evil entities etc. It was a big deal. These books coupled with iron maiden, got us both drawing monsters and shit.
