Never, and I'll never realize that because I am going to make it. So are you if you stop whining like a bitch, silence your mind and keep drilling fundamentals non-stop.

I am back to grinding Scott Robertson's book. See you on the other side, Anon.

why does everyone assume you have to be the "best" in order to be successful? This isn't a sport. Competition does exist in any artistic related industry, but there's so much demand that one amazing artist can't supply for. I relate this to singing. Not only is it subjective, but you have people like Maroon 5 and Brittany Spears making money off their shitty vocals. Kim Jung Gi is like the Celine Dion of Art. Sure, they are talented, but i wouldn't hire them to draw Kill La Kill or sing "California Love".

When I ended up in a psychiatric hospital in 2011. Being committed was incidentally unrelated to art, but I knew that that was the end of the line for any further serious drawing and painting.

In the years since, I've experimented with a lot. Crochet. Needle felting. Polymer clay. Papier mache. Making plush toys following my own patterns, or following someone else's pattern to practice my sewing. Taxidermy. I'm rubbish at most of them, but there's joy in the act of creation, which is what I need more than the serious ability to paint or draw.

If the skill is equal in both cases, it doesn't matter what you think.

What you should do is just enjoy the ride while it lasts. Enjoy drawing and have the will to improve.
>>
>>2877392
You don't enjoy something you're always going to suck at. Practice doesn't always make you better.
>>
>>2877400
Except that it does.
You just need to be lucky and do the right exercises.
>>
>>2877400
Suck at is a broad term, depends how high your bar is for not sucking.

I imagine anyone without some form of retardation can get decent enough at drawing if they keep at it. Completely another story if your IQ is 60, maybe git gud at scrubbing toilets instead.
>>
>>2877403
So if you don't have luck you're fucked?

>So if you don't have luck you're fucked?

>>
>>2877388

You need to stop being such an entitled piece of shit, no one owes you anything, buddy. If you want to git gud, you gotta force through the obstacles life throws at you because there's really no other way. You can moan all you want, it won't change a thing. We both know for certain that you'll never improve if you don't practice, and all you're saying are just shitty excuses not to bother trying.

Stop being a sad puppy and take control of your dreams.

>>
>>2877450
I've been drawing for over a year now with zero improvement, and that's with a half hour of practice a day and reading all the recommend books like Loomis.
>>
>>2877455

>half hour of practice a day

0.5hx365= 182.5 h That's fucking nothing. Jesus christ, how are you surprised you're not getting anywhere? It will take you 55 years to get 10.000 hours experience at this rate.

Dude, what the fuck?
>>
>>2877461
Well how long should I work? Three hours? Five?
>>
>>2877463
Depends, if you plan on living from this shit, you should invest all the time you can (with breaks of course).

If it's just a hobby and you really want to improve you should do 2-2.5h and analyze your mistakes.
>>
>>2877463

I'd say 6 hours a day minimum, and if you really want to blow everyone else and rocket away in terms of improvement, try 15 hours a day for a couple months and watch your morale get boosted to the max. Look dude, even one day doing 15 hours a day is the same amount of practice as a month of 0.5h a day you've been doing. Imagine that shit.
>>
>>2877466
So I just wasted my fucking time for an entire year then.
>>
>>2877468
no, because you didn't even work that much to begin with.
If you're that worried about wasting your time, you should really focus on what you want to improve so every draw you make improves yourself a bit more.
Books are guides, if you think "fuck, this drawing looks so unreal and fake" then go and study perspective if your drawings look deformed as fuck go and study proportions.

You can't go forward if you don't even know the path.

Breaks are important of course.
>I'd say 6 hours a day minimum
this guy is crazy, no adult with a job will have energy to do this shit everyday.

But i can guarantee one thing, the real effort (not half assed shit) is tangible.
If you really invest yourself in it you will become good at it, but first you have to ask yourself "do i really want to become good at art/an illustrator that bad?".
>>
>>2877481
So do the same thing that failed to get any results, just more of it.

When Attall retweeted picrelated. I realized it's /ic/ magicoreo and fall into dispair. I'm 25 years old NEET who spent 4 years learning hot to draw using "Teal's guide" as bible and achive nothing except being shit version of Proko v0.3 who only can draw shitty realistic meat bags from reference. Something to be noted is that the guides /ic/ recommends are guides people put together in hindsight. The "If I could have gone back" or "After learning all this stuff and making it work, here's the proper path to take".

It's assumed that when the advice is given, you're fucking around on your own time with a goal in mind or creating stuff for yourself from your imagination. Or rearranging what you learn into a whole new thing.

That's the most important key. Arguable the second would be using what you're studying constructively.

Anyway. If you find yourself in a trap where you can only draw from reference from only studying, the solution is to just draw shit. And do it the logical route. Start with small shapes in perspective, and start filling things in.

Hopefully it works out. It might not. I don't know. My artwork is fucking garbage too.

>>
>>2879981
So what is the way of learning? Just draw from manga and anime all the time as well as from imagination? Only ref when you need to? Sounds good to me.
>>
When I was young my drawings are always shit and aware /it is/ shit but think "It's the best that I can make right now." and "I'm better than people my age!" and if not then "I'm better than ___."

I even quit drawing as a kid, that's when I started drawing robots then it turned into collecting toy robots, and even crafting origami space ships.
Started drawing again, I cheated by copying and tracing. Then I drew my first OC and with anatomy (although I've no idea what it is at my age) ended up throwing/burning/watering them down the sink and kinda regretted it now because I'm in need of concept designs.

I compensated what I lacked but I wasn't aware of it.
I was open to possibilities "I'll be good when I'm this age"
I've seen artists surpass me lots of times so nothing can hurt me anymore.

So far the best thing I discovered myself is to "trust your feelings and let your mind focus." "stop thinking too much and trust your intuition."

>>2868514
>When did you realize that you're not going to make it?
People think of not making it when:

they realized they've wasted time.
wasted money.
wasted opportunities.
they're too old for this.

too shallow to understand that none of those really matter if you truly want to draw.
>>
>>2880093
>Just draw from manga and anime all the time as well as from imagination?
Not that anon but this is what I do since every anime have different styles unless they're from the same studio (manga artists have uniquest styles)

>Only ref when you need to? Sounds good to me.
Yes unless you plan on putting every single thing that exist in your work which is impossible. BTW you don't need to draw every ref, you can use these refs as reference for developing and expanding your concepts (gothic/techno/steampunk)
>>
>>2880100
