Here's my level system I just thought up now

Level 1: No fundies trash. Basically everything in that video from level 1-3, most of 4 and some of 5 goes here. Flat symbol drawn garbage.
Level 2: /beg/. It's pretty bad but at least it has some semblance of fundamentals. The artist tried to use anatomy knowledge and perspective and understands the importance of 3d but they just suck at it. Given a bit of practice and study they'll reach the next level pretty quickly.
Level 3: Intermediate. Understands fundies. Not pro level but it's okay. Most of the stuff in the draw thread is this.
Level 4 and beyond: Pro. Level 4 is the minimum skill level to make a decent living doing illustration. No point in going in detail about levels after this because you already made it.

I'll agree there are a lot of obviously mislabeled pieces, but that's probably because they got 1k submissions to sift through. There is definitely progression though, but the video would be better if they were more detailed on the skills and limitations of their leveling hierarchy.

I am beginning to think /ic/'s Levels are like the Windows Experience Index. The different skills of the artist are evaluated, but the artist is only rated by his or her lowest score. This is why /ic/ is so bitter about everyone and has rated practically every artist out there shit-tier.

The typical d/ic/k's scorecard looks like this:
> Anatomy
> Perspective
> Proportion (sometimes combined with perspective)
> Lighting
> Detail (sometimes combined with lighting into "rendering")
> aesthethic (composition, color choices and overall execution)
> Content

Let's run this test on Sakimichan:
> Anatomy: 7/10 (believable but flaws show up in some edge cases)
> Perspective: 8/10*
> Proportion: 8/10*
> Lighting: 9/10*
> Detail: 7/10
> Aesthetic: 6.5/10
> Content: 1.5/10**

Therefore Sakimichan for all she's capable of is still 1.5.

* Much of /ic/ is inclined to give much lower scores on these tests because she keeps drawing the same old thing over and over again, but here I am judging her based only on what she has done (and being generous). IMHO she's pretty good if you limit yourself to just 1-point perspective, front-lit, close-up portraits.

** Needless to say, she has a very small comfort zone she never ventures out of, and this is likely one of /ic/'s triggers. There are only a handful of published paintings under her copyright that isn't her typical fare.

The quality of visual art made by men is equal to the quality of life for people in the world. The more suffering the better the art is. Nobody in 2017 is suffering as much as da vinci, Rembrandt, or even Warhol. So art is the worst it's ever been because the world is so great at the moment.

If men can find a way to suffer there is potential to create great art again.

You know in rpg's where there are abilities that only stack off of bonus stats? It doesn't matter what the base stats are? thats how art works too.

Just because people make bad art, doesn't mean quality of life has gone down. Bad art doesn't inspire people to make better art. It's simply a matter of life being better so art is worse.

If all art was equal, or if art was action instead of reaction, art would never look any different through time periods as quality of life changed. We'd be in a constant feedback loop of art getting a little worse, then a little better, then a little worse, etc.

Art is a reflection of the times. In bad times we aspire for beauty and balance. In times of beauty and balance obviously we continue to strive for the same things, but when so little needs changing, there's so little to say in artwork.
