almost every artist i know in the industry has a side career when things get slow.

being good ins't really that good of a feeling wither, you end up not liking anything you do, but only enjoy the process, in the end making you feel empty inside, but for some reason you keep creating.

Achieving whatever your goal in art is.

If your goal was, for example, to make a small simple source of revenue on the side and you maintain it well, then you've made it.

Just being able to live on my creative skills alone. I don't care about making lots of money, just enough to get by without having to work some shitty full time job that I don't enjoy, and have more time for creating things.

Earning enough to live of somewhere outside a city doing art and having a lot of time to paint what I want next to it. Other thing is to be able to draw what I want without having trouble with fundies. I'm getting there slowly, I'm slowly making art that is more ambitious and better.
I learned so far how to make a painting look nice and correct, but I spend too much time now, because of the fundies. So just getting to the stage that all I have to worry about is texture, composition, storytelling etc.

Getting a job in your chosen field that makes you enough money to live comfortably. Or if you're only contracted this way for a few years at a time, the ability/connections to pick up another such contract any time you feel like it, with a comfortable number of fallback options. Pretty good security too, in other words.

Man, this sounds like a nightmare when I spell it out, considering my ideal existence would be completely incompatible with the necessities of maintaining this career at a point at which it could really be categorized as one at all.
