Your problem is having some sort of morality.

photobashes and realism don't even get that much attention on Tumblr compared to simple, yet appealing lineart with flat colors or CalArts style rendering. I guess if you are truly terrible at drawing, then you get a little bit more attention with tracing and photobashing, but if you are just above mediocre, nice drawings usually get you way more followers.

I honestly don't understand how tumblr popularity works.
I did a piece last night and woke up with 90+ notes, considering my average is like 6.
There was even a shemale porn blog reblogging it, and it has nothing even slightly sexual about the piece.

You got lucky and had someone with lots of followers reblog it. That's how most popular artists got their follower base. It's rarely a slow but steady increase over a long period of time, but rather a few times they got lucky and had huge jumps in views and followers as a result of that.

No Anon, you're talking about fanart. A detailed, well rendered piece that isn't some kind of take on an established IP is going to flop. Tumblr art is mostly fanart

Tumblr is a mystery to me.
Maybe I have some wrong setting or I do not know but I have 0 total notes and the same art on other platforms deviantart / insta / etc with like.

No I'm not talking about fanart. Fanart obviously gets more notes than anything else. I'm talking about original stylized drawings vs original photobashes / realistic concept art type work like what OP pretends got him lots of notes. The former on average clearly is more popular on Tumblr than the latter so if what you care about is getting lots of followers on Tumblr, photobashing and tracing isn't the way to go.
