That leg doesn't make sense, it's too long and looks like it has two knees, the neck is also a bit strange, seems kind of thin.
>>2858843
This is very nice, the only issue I see is that the leg on the bottom is kinda small, and the right hip is too far back which makes it look like it doesn't exist.
I'm far from a good artist, but these are the issues immediately apparent to me. Keep up the good work tho, I like it.

Lovely gestures! Head to body ratio seems off for white haired girl, but it's cartoon, I guess.
Is the linework coal or black pencil?
I read gouache is a water color but from what I've seen it seems to be closer to acrylics in practice. Could you clear this up for me?

It is off. I was foreshortening it but didn't pay attention. Next time.
Gouache is like watercolor and acrylic, but yeah it's used more like acrylic with the advantages of watercolor.

Yeah toned sketchbook. Starting with a mid-value helps because when you can go both brighter or darker and really make your sketches pop, while with white paper you can only get darker. It's good to practice on both though.

>>2862141
Ya when I took the pic I could see that one of the tracks felt "off"
and the meme cross wasn't meant to be edgy or anything, just been interested in WW2 lately, more specifically the SS störmtrüpen and their camos and small arms and such
Also coming up with concepts and ideas for a turn based WW1/WW2 rpg, probably gonna make it in RPG Maker since it will be my 1st game, then after I have some experience make one from skratch using Game Maker or Unity
Think FF6 or something but set in WW1/WW2 you'd have a party of 4 with an assault, LMG support, medic, and sniper or something like that, and it'd tell the tale of a small platoon and their struggles to help end WW1/WW2 and the political backstabbing you'd see in something like FF: Tactics or Tactics Ogre
Still don't know which army you'd play as Britain or Germany in WW1 or US or Germany in WW2
I've been leaning more towards doing WW1 since not many ppl have made a WW1 rpg other than maybe FRITZ which I found after the fact and is still in development, but who knows I might just change my mind, still in the concept stage

This is excellent to me. The only thing keeping it from perfection is that it looks like you forgot to draw the inside of the mouth; the skin stretches between its jaw on the outside, but it doesn't show the same thing on the other side. Doesn't appear to be a full on side profile, so we should be seeing the inside of that connecting skin.

WIP before shading
General discussion: I hate sketchbooks. I have a binder with loose pieces of paper and it's so much more comfortable and cheaper to just use this. The ring always gets on my nerves in these books. Anyone else has this problem or am I a freak?
>>2864404
I have that problem and carried around a folder with the smoothest printer paper, which took on copic markers and pencils way better than most sketchbooks IMO. I only started using sketchbooks once I moved onto toned paper, but for white paper I still buy printing paper and use that instead.

Whats with this trend of placing the eyes above the hair. It ruins the entire thing
>>2866150
That particular page is all referenced but I usually mix references in with freehand or alternate pages. I try to balance my references and my freehand out because I don't think only referencing things would be conducive for my memorization improvement.
As for books, I have plenty... Ken Hultgren like the other guy said, also the Ellenburger and Goldfinger books are really good for getting to know the muscles and bones. Imagine FX magazine has an 'anatomy essentials' softcover which covers both animal and human anatomy which is really nice for construction. Right now i'm also partly using the Gottfried Bammes PDF book and so far it seems legit for proportions and stuff but I haven't gotten deep into it. As for inspiration I'm personally using Terryl Whitlatch's creature design books as my main source of mojo... Though I'm trying my best to not have my art look like hers.

>>2867556
the context is there. girl on a train or whatever. Sitting etc. Girl in front of me. Yet. MUSLIM girl.
The muslim part is irrelevant.
>>2867559
No, kim jung no
>>2867635
>>2867556
What sort of "context" are you trying to convey by mentioning she's muslim though? The context that matters is already in the picture alone, no need to explain anything. You point it out as if it's so spectacular compared to her just being a girl on a train. And what if she isn't muslim? A lot of non-muslims wear headscarves too.
I am not >>2867484 but I see where he's coming from. This reminds me of white yuppies who talk about not just their friend, but their token "black friend", and not their neighbors but their "Chinese neighbors" as if that alone is supposed to imply something. So what sort of "context" are you trying to convey by mentioning she's muslim?
>>2867559
Yes it is good, but check out Guy Delisle if you want a few examples of how to simplify background figures.
>>2867635

>>2867658
I didn't draw the image. But people add a bit of completely irrelevant text to images all the time.
There are a bunch of other people in this very thread who have written complimentary text to their drawings that has nothing to do with the actual image. This is nothing new or special, but still you have all the sperging faggots who gets triggered as fuck over that 1 drawing.

I got bored and started drawing my hand, got bored with that and added an eye, but kinda fucked up the other arm as i couldnt really use it for refrence as good. any advice on how to get better at drawing from memory?
>>2867721
Familiarize yourself with the structures you want to draw by drawing them a lot. That's how you do it.
I mean. It's not great advice but it's something.
Got one of those multi colour ballpoints and messed around a bit.
>>2867721
What >>2867724 said.
Learn as much as possible about the subject. With the body it's all about the muscles and bone structure. It's boring as fuck, but you've got to do it if you want to learn.
But before all that, learn a bit of construction to give the drawing a sense of shape and depth. You should be able to find something good about that in the sticky.

>>2867458
Nice use of brushpen, most of your lines are confident. Hands and lips are rushed though
>>2867458
Also now that I'm looking at it, her forehead makes no sense. A female hairline is not that high, you make her look like Eggman. Honestly you fucked up the form of her head by elongating her forehead, but if you lowered her hairline it would probably not be noticeable at all
>>2867962
Unless you have a reference of the first subject and her nose is that weird, I'm going to go ahead and say you got her nose entirely wrong. But otherwise you captured the spirit.
Second one is throwing me off. Did he have "old person jaw" (no teeth, aka mandible curls upwards due to bone loss) or did you just measure poorly? His cranium seems rather small, I don't buy it. I suspect you really got his brow ridge wrong, but the whole thing just looks like each part is in a slightly different perspective.

build form instead of jumping straight to shading. Observe the form of a banana, and have the lines curve around that form, don't just go straight across the shape, it makes it very flat.
This is a great start none the less! However don't be afraid to push up your values and go into your darks a bit more. :)
>>2869550
shapes are more or less correct, lines aint that bad either. Shape of the lines tho.. you need to follow the fruit my friend. also, if you shade like that, use any pen. or use few pencils, and make the darkest at least b5
otherwise, its fucking bland
Some skellies and an oil paint stain ( somehow ).
Sorry for the terrible photo quality, can't really do much about it = /
>>2869550
Anon, here is a tip that helped me a lot! I had a similar problem as you. Make one spot DARK, like as dark as you possibly can, it should be the spot that is the darkest on what you are drawing. Your lightest is your paper right? So now you have a value range you have to follow, if the rest is too light it will look weird so you will have to go darker! : )

Wanted a modern subject with kind of a Crumb or Delisle feeling. I still haven't decided what the background is, but it should cover two pages.
This was based on a dramatic photo of Carlotta Champagne, but I had to turn into a joke. If you don't take your reference seriously it happens naturally.

>>2871109
Pretty cool. Keep at it.
But it's a shame you went lazy with the buildings in the background.
imo it's better to just not draw it at all if you're not going to try and draw it properly.
>>2862352
The left legs seem too close to the viewer, it makes the tiger seem a bit flat. Other than that, good job
>>2864591
Unless you prefer otherwise, I think you might benefit from trying some symmetry in the basic design first, then decide what could be changed afterwards (unless what you're drawing is specifically supposed to be non-symmetrical at the base, obviously).
You might like some of the designs from pic related, lots of robotic knights and such with similar exaggerated limbs
>>2871130
What did you mean by 'lazy with the buildings'? They were meant to be the mass housing apartments across the eastern european area. They aren't exactly eye candy to begin with.
Also, I somewhat disagree with your second point. Sure you should always strive to do your work with perfection, but through imperfections that you don't pick up on the first time around, and criticism on said imperfections, is how you improve your work. There's never any reason not to draw. Ones man's chicken scratch is another man's inspiration, after all.
>>2871206
I see what they are supposed to be. But compared to the car they feel lazy.
The car has a bit of line weight, shadows and shape. But the buildings doesn't. They feel flat boring, and not in a good way. And that takes focus from the car, which is a shame.
You could try and tidy up the buildings a bit. Perhaps give them more of a silhouette similar to the one on the car?
It just feels like you put down a lot of time on the car and on the text, but then felt like "oh shit. I have to draw a background" and scribbled it together. It's obvious that you can do better, my man. So do better.
>>2871266
The ones after the car, that's just some shit I lazily doodled in class. Someone might take away something from them, who knows. But you were right about the background, this was originally just meant to be a quick sketch of a shitty jalopy. One thing left to another and before you know it I'm adding a background. I will definitely take your advice about adding a silhouette to the buildings and apply it to other drawings. I hadn't thought of doing that before, but this is why I come to these threads. Thanks for the advice.
Some of the things I've drawn over the last months, from oldest to newest.
My sketchbook is just a big pile of white paper.
