I need some help, /ic/. I'm working on a female character and I want to get the figure right. I want the hips to be wideset, and for the actual body to be kinda skinny and lithe. Do you guys have any references for this? Pic related is kinda the figure I'm going for, but I wanted some real life references so I don't end up with fucked anatomy.

you don't need specific reference for a body with wide hips and a narrow torso. you just need to understand the anatomy and then you can draw whatever proportions you like.

Am I the only one wondering what the fuck is going on in that hip region?
>>
>>2858849
you drew the ASIS too high, it's actually a little higher than those straps

where you drew the red circle is the hip bone, the purple circle is actually the femur and where you drew the ASIS is where the obliques end

not at home to draw it
>>
>>2858849
I'm assuming that the top curve is the femur, while the bottom is an exaggerated muscle. I personally like how it looks, but I'm not too sure if it's entirely correct.

I know the ASIS is too high, I merely traced the original artist.
Look at the hard-edged shadow defining the bone of the iliac spine, pinching down the obliques.

>>shit at drawing but studied a bit of anatomy

I drew the original redline with my mouse, I'm trying to understand anatomy, not nitpick it.
Also, if your idea of stylization is "let's just throw in two greater trochanters, for shits and giggles", then I feel deeply sorry for your art career.
Cheers.

>>2858953

Not quite, it's a bunch of fat creating that smooth delicious curve on female silhouette. Underneath is gluteus medius, you're right about that.

Also try drawing from croquis cafe or similar sources to expand the "anatomy" folder in your visual library.

Who else could better understand form?
>>
>>2859224
Kinda, yeah. You have to visualize everything in 3D, so you basically sculpt the paper with your pencil.
>>
>>2859224
Asked myself the same question. I follow some artists who make very good figurines, mostly fanart of video games and stuff, but very accurate with nice details. Weird part is that they are terrible draftsmen. I am sure picking up sculpting helps, but the skills don't translate that well for a reason that is unknown to me.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. I came up with this figure, any thoughts before I move forward? I am still /beg/ so there's definitely some problems with chicken scratch and a reliance on linework, but I'm working on both of those. I just want to know what you guys think of this figure.

Fix those hands, especially the one on the left( her right hand)
>>
>>2859677
You seem to know the shapes of the muscles (roughly) but you need to learn how to place them on top of construction. Learn basic figure construction and mannequin first lad, then everything should start falling together. Unironically Loomis, specifically Fun With A Pencil. Also maybe Vilppu for gesture

Not bad for a beginner.
There are some issues, though. The hip lumps are odd. The obliques should not be protruding out of the abdomen in this manner. I also suggest making the ribcage smaller, since you wanted a skinnier figure. Actually, the whole thing looks pretty masculine, so I gave it a redline.
>>
>>2859706
>>2859729

Why is Hampton better? Could you explain? I am trying to learn gesture right now and I am reading both
>>
>>2860649
Just look him up, Hampton's book and website sources are the absolute godsend for learning anatomy.
Though if you're a beginner, you should be working on basics. Anatomy is a waste of time unless you have a solid understanding of form, perspective and gesture.
>>
>>2860707

I went through Vandruff perspective dvd and drilled it a bit, read through half Scott's Robertson book. I am starting gesture atm.

I appreciate the help guys, I made some alterations if you wouldn't mind taking a look. I think the masculine look was the result of a wide, square set of shoulders which I have noticed I tend to overdo.
