It's probably that I'm just friendly. Working service jobs has left me seemingly approachable no matter how much I'm mean-mugging.

Hopefully it'll help me in whatever industry I settle on if that "produce good work/be easy to work with/occasionally miss deadlines" diagram is true. (So far it's true for the jobs getting me through university, but those are a little more forgiving.)

Same. I always felt stressed because I was trying to maximize time and efficiency. But despite mastering Photoshop I always felt anxious.

So I decided that less is more.
No layers.
No clipping masks.
No blending modes.
No liquify.
No transform.
No textures.
No ctrl-z.

Only the brush tool with a single layer. Sure it takes me way longer to finish something but it's so much more enjoyable.
Having so many options makes things more stressful. Look up "Paradox of choice."

When I get a commission I do use all the tools to get the job done quicker. Time is money. But if I had it my way I would never use them.

When I was in primary school I participated in a citywide drawing contest. I didn't win any prize but they gave me a consolation prize. My last name was incorrectly written. Later I discovered the fucking organizers tought I was the son of a famous architect in the city who had a similar last name to mine, and they tought he had helped me with the drawing. That's why they considered It wasn't fair to give the prize.

I say in my first year, class of 40 not including myself there is four other student drawing at least 4 hours+, two of which are trying to studying the fundamentals and applying them well in my opinion.

In year 2, I know of two people who have some really nice design and style along with some knowledge in fundamentals, though there on level with me I would say.

3rd years students I only know of one person who does really nice work, she surpasses me and has a really good understanding of animal anatomy and other fundamentals.

It's a good course subject matter wise as it gives a lot of freedom, were currently doing book illustrations for a couple select books/comics. Jamie Hewlett knows our course tutor, so he sent a script for a tank girl comic for us to illustrate, he's passed on to us that if he thinks our work is good enough he'll write a comic adapted for the style he likes. So it's a good course it's just there's not enough pressure to actually get good.
