Any simple enough tips that made you "get it"? Recently I had to draw using pens because I got out of pencils, and when I got back to them my line control got way better. Kinda like when an anime character goes through a training arc and can now read the enemy movements or when goku went through the heightened gravity workout I suppose.
Another one was drawing hands by focusing on thumb placement, now I can almost project an image on the paper while before I felt lost. Small but significative jumps in skill like that are serious bumps to confidence and make it feel less like a torture, so anything in this line would be nice.

Doing value studies typically helped me understand bodies. It just became obvious once I realize why this value was dark or light in comparison to another.
