I need some help in getting a girl to like me. There's this absolutely beautiful person I know, we have never talked (have a few mutual friends). I need to form an intimate emotional connection with her. I've formulated a plan to get to know her:

Basically, I'll come up to her, say "hey, how's it going, etc etc, you're really pretty, can I draw a portrait of you?" (or something like that) then I'll show her my best graphite portraits in my sketchbook. Then if she agrees, I'll have her sit in front of me for 3-4 hours and make an amazing drawing of her, better than anything I've ever drawn before. While I'm drawing, I'll also converse with her, ask her about her interests, hobbies, and so on (I already have some idea of her personality, what music she likes, etc). This way we'll get to know each other better and I'll give her an excellent portrait at the end that she will hopefully like.

Is this a good plan? Do you think a girl would readily agree to being drawn by a semi-random person (not ugly, but a little autistic when getting to know people at first), if he's good enough? Who should I study to enhance my portrait skills? Is drawing a portrait of a girl a good way to get her interested in you (romantically or not) and want to talk to you more? What do you mean? Period pains? If you have debilitating menstrual pain where you have to take several days off work, that's not normal. Go see a doctor. When it comes to having children, that's another story... most famous people in history were childless, celibates, or gay for a reason. Even men get bogged down with responsibilities and have to stop following their dreams if they have mouths to feed. This is likely the biggest reason why there are less women written into history than men, not because of deliberate oppression.

Getting challenged is just life, not a uniquely female experience. I've seen males get questioned by others, especially by other men. Surround yourself with other female artists who share similar subject matters as you, and look at a lot of other women who draw what you like. Don't be afraid to reach out to people.

Consider the age group that these "successful female artists" are in. For example, the female artists online that /ic/ likes to troll are in their teens/20's who also act stupid (since they're young), while the male artists that /ic/ praises are top professionals in their 30's to 50's who have been working for decades. It's not even a comparison. And let's be honest, the type of shit young male artists draw aren't good either lol. Sorry guys, but the Sturgeon's law is real.

If you look at female artists in their 30's and 40's, they're not drawing cutesy shit. Also a lot of female concept artists are automatically assumed to be male and fly under your radar, making them seem even rarer than they are.

If you have an inferiority complex, don't brush it off as being stupid. You got it somehow, somewhere, for a reason. Instead of ignoring it, reflect on it. Where did you get it from? Why? A lot of times views about gender comes from our upbringing. I had incredibly shitty parents myself, but I was fortunate enough to have a lot of good female teachers (and male too) who were very smart and capable.

Your thoughts about gender doesn't just affect how you see yourself as an artist, but how you see yourself as a whole. So surround yourself with other mature, capable, and intelligent women even though they're not artists. It helps.

Honestly, it's weird. I grew up with a hardworking mother who is an incredibly talented teacher who kept working until the last day of pregnancy, while my dad got unemployed and started spending all day in bed while my mom made the housework. I probably have a certain disdain towards females because my sister, while being a good person, has been given everything in a silver plate because of her beauty. And the general lack of camaraderie and bitchiness between my female friends didnt help either.

Just realizing that not everything is as black and white as I imagined though, so you're right. I'll keep working hard.

This is not surprising. Being a strong woman doesn't mean picking up the slack of others or bearing the brunt of everything because her man isn't doing his part as husband and father. What you saw wasn't an independent capable woman who can do it all, but a woman being stepped all over. A woman who was allowing cruelty (yes neglecting is a type of mistreatment) from the man who vowed to love and protect and cherish her.

We women teach men how to treat us, and we accept the love we think we deserve. Not to play therapist since I don't know your life story, but I know that no child should see their pregnant mother accept that type of bullshit, and your father was pretty much nonexistent as either husband nor father.

I don't know if anyone brought to your attention anything like this, and I am just another anon on 4chan, but I've seen some stuff in my life.

What I've seen is the amount of bullshit people put up with just to not be alone, to follow some formula that they could care less about, or to hold onto pipe dreams instead of looking at the person in front of them for what he (or she) really is. So many people who seem to have their shit together on the surface actually go home to really bad situations. I've seen people marry someone they don't even like. I've seen people get beaten, cheat on eachother, and still stick around with their cheating spouses because they think they can't do any better or because they don't want to lose their image. I've seen people pop out unwanted kids just for the sake of getting another milestone checked off the to-do list and then drop them off with nannies and never bother to spend time with them.

So yeah when I read your post it had that familiar stench to it even though I don't know your life story.

The biggest losers of it all are the children. We get the shit end of the stick. And then the kids repeat the cycle unless we realize we deserve better.
