How do we fix /ic/
>>
>>2824907
by removing you
>>
>>2824907
There's not much to fix realistically speaking. 80% of its use is in 20% of its threads, 80/20 rule, it's normal.

If I could maybe make one small suggestion for moderators to act on:
>if the OP refers to a living artist by name it is likely b8, it is likely drama, it will likely start a flame war. Delete the thread and ban the OP

But maybe something that doesn't require moderators to actually do something because, heh, what moderators? Apparently there's only ~12 mods and I don't think any of them draw. So instead, alter the front end and format of /ic/ to better influence user behavior:

Reducing the total pages available down to 5 will cut down on junk threads, and the useful eternal threads (book, draw, animation, etc) will make up a higher percentage of the board. New users will be more likely to see them and use them, cutting down on junk threads, etc. "r8 my shit I just drew" threads will fall off the board faster because the threads /ic/ users actually use will keep them bumped down. There are many possible benefits. Well, it's worth an experiment at least.
>>
4chan has been getting increasingly popular over the past few years
Many new users are shitposters and have defiled the quality of boards such as /ic/ that never before received much attention and as such had a mature community where quality discussion would happen.

Also there is an element of looking at the past with rose tinted glasses. We remember all the users that went on to be professionals but that doesn't mean there weren't far more people that were failures, we just forgot about them.

I know it's a controversial topic still but the LAS thread is by far the most productive thing that has ever come out of /ic/. LAS has gotten many users to draw everyday and refine the skills, not everyone studies but raw mileage is a huge thing that many artists lack in. Unmotivated Losers is a more study centered system but it doesn't provide the incentive to bring in enough members that are dedicated to draw everyday. However LAS doesn't really incentivize critique which ultimately is the most important thing in art improvement.

The Drawthread and other similar threads provide critique but there isn't much incentive to post there.

The problem I see is that there are people offering critique, people drawing everyday and people studying but they are all separated with only a few doing all of those things.

I believe that in order to fix /ic/ we need to unite the community and provide more incentive to be productive.
The Discord has the potential to do this but it suffers from the problem of shitposting

Also nobody reads the sticky anymore, I don't even see shitty fun with a pencil or upsidedown Picassos anymore
>>
>>2824907
Basically, you don't.
>>
>>2824907

The sticky needs to be edited to make the fucking rules visible and direct newfags to the corresponding thread.

But come the fuck on. "Le generals" spawn the most fucking cancer out of all of /ic/ combined.

>Porn thread
>Kyle samefagging
>Malaids

>Alt style thread
>Chris-chan
>Keppok

>/las/
>Explains itself.

And more recently:

>/oil/ thread
>Brian
>Chunbum

Not to mention

>Shadposting threads
>Kr0n/irakli/sakimichan b8 threads
>"Meme of the month" b8 threads
>"How to git gud" threads
>"hey r8 my art" threads

I swear I'll apply as janitor and make /ic/ great again.
>>
I have a ton of hidden threads here too but it is only because I am narcissistic about art and I don't want to see newfag, begginer, question threads, shitposts or anything that isn't serious.

fpbp
>>
>>2824941
LAS is one of the threads I ignore. Never seems to be any art in it. Just shit posting and in-jokes.
>>
>>2825077
how new are you? The porn, kyle, and alt threads have been here for years.
>>
>>2825077
I hope you succeed. /ic/ needs a savior.
>>
EZ
1) MOD and janitor.
2) IDs
3) Forbid /pol/ users from posting here
4) Do something with unstoppable spoonfeeding
5) Remove "rate my art" threads
6) Remove "what do u think about_____ shitposting threads"
7) "Pretending" as artist or posting other people works as yours = ban. If you get caught of course. Except merc_wip

But simply we need Mod and janitor

>>2825077
>Alt style thread
>let's nuke art style threads because of shitposters instead of dealing with shitposters
You're genius man!
>>
>>2825138
>let's nuke art style threads because of shitposters instead of dealing with shitposters
It's very american to ignore the problem and hope it goes away instead of dealing with it. Prisons are an example.

>Implying.

Never said I wanted to nuke the only useful part of this board. In fact, we need people to post their damn shit right there to maybe improve the quality of the discussion.

>Unstoppable spoonfeeding
Wat. People literally stopped making redlines and all help given can be resumed in "Sticky" and "Loomis".

>IDs

Yup. we need IDs. Samefagging in a lot of threads is physically painful and will help spot the shitposters more easily.

>/pol/

99% of the time /pol/ is brought to the discussion is in a bait thread. Simply applying the rules and setting IDs will help with that.

>>2825125

Did I say it was a recent issue or something? I've been here long before the mods applied the ban hammer on furfags, which happens to be the same time of Kyle samefagging the porn threads to oblivion.

So, anyone with enough time in the board can easily identify shitpost threads. If it's not me, please someone become janitor.
>>
>>2825182
>Wat. People literally stopped making redlines and all help given can be resumed in "Sticky" and "Loomis".
I mean those retards who create "where to download shit" threads. We even have ones who don't know how yo use torrents.
>>
>>2825162
And they forgot about /ic/.
>>2825182
This. The porn threads died when Kyle samefagged over and over and told us how great he was.
>>
>>2825203
> We even have ones who don't know how to use torrents.
I remember that one time there was an anon who didn't know how to open .zip files and everyone wondered how the fuck he got here in the first place.

There is other way.
We can create our own comfy /ic/ here. Recreate from the beginning. Invest into fun memes like merc_wip, purge and humiliate bad shitposters as daily basics, start doing more redlines and even fun ones. Encourage posting your own art. Turn shitposting into funposting.

What is merc_wip?

Honestly, there's nothing to be gained from /ic/ past a point, and that point is not particularly far along the development timeline.

When you're new, most things on /ic/ are useful to you in some way.
As you learn and get better, less and less posts are relevant or useful to improving your skill, as even the memes, buzzwords and frustrated venting you learned from in the beginning eventually become just another shitpost.

It seems to you that draw threads became beginner threads, beginner threads became retard central, and everything is just shitposting and gossip threads, but the truth is that you grew, nigga.
You're getting to the other end of Dunning-Kruger, and you are not aware how much skill you have compared to the random faggot that never read Loomis.
/ic/ didn't become shit, your bar was raised.
Yeah, there were short periods with more memorable individuals than there are here now, but those are outliers, they have come and gone, and there will be more of them again, but they do not affect the board as a whole.

You're too big for the nest, lil nigga.
Fly, you magnificent faggot.
Fly.

Holy shit I think I agree with your entire post, anon. If I may add to it, in my experience I have been led astray by people who "critique" my work when they had no idea what they were talking about. Or just plain shitposters who were really good at hiding their true intentions. It confused me for a while, not knowing what was considered "good" or "bad" art anymore.

If we could somehow eradicate shitposting on a board that is dependent on true and honest critiques, that would be amazing. But how can such a thing be accomplished on an anonymous image board? I don't like the idea of everyone having a board-specific ID, but maybe /ic/ should adopt thread-specific IDs like some other boards? Then we could at least keep track of obvious shitposters on a thread-by-thread basis and easily avoid them. But I also feel this is a smaller issue in the grand scheme of things. It's just a small issue that can really have a huge impact on a beginner artist's drive to improve.
>>
>>2825138
Does /ic/ even have any fucking mods? I got banned for 3 days once, but it was complete bullshit. I was explaining to some newfags what Krongate was in a Kron thread. Apparently I was hatefully targeting an artist? Absolutely not, I was explaining a past event surrounding a certain artist. I didn't tell anyone to harass the guy. So either /ic/ has some kind of dumbass AI managing posts or one single mod who doesn't quite understand the board rules properly. We definitely need more mods at the very least.

take it to /pol/
>>
>>2825116
LAS is a website
It's still /ic/, the main area of discussion is /ic/ and it was made by /ic/ but all the art is posted on a website
There are probably round 100 art posts a day in LAS

>>2825681
The only way I see of getting rid of the shitposters is for them not to have any reason to come here anymore and that will probably only happen when 4chan shitposting is no longer a mainstream fad anymore
>>
>>2824907
The only threads worth here are /beg/, Alternative Art/Stylization General, Questions Thread, Draw Thread and some few others like the Animation Thread.
Rest is useless shit that can be discussed in one of the above threads or shitposting about Shad, Proko and Tumblrart.

LAS is the biggest cancer to ever come out of this board. It basically destroyed all of what used to make /ic/ fun. Study threads, collabs, challenge threads, no one does this anymore because they only got time for one shitty LAS doodle a day.

Kyle doesn't samefag, you moron. That's another anon, or more of them, that have a personal vendetta against him (probably just because they are jealous of his popularity).

>>

>Does /ic/ even have any fucking mods?
Nope. They're from different boards only react at big amount of reports. I was banned once for reporting spam thread that was deleted later. You can be banned in shitposting thread for posting something like "hurr durr" while everyone literally spamming "hurr durr". And as you can see pol has a lot freedom here
