Anybody still doing sculpture or ceramics on here?

I tried to make a headphone stand but it turned out horrifying.

What have you been making?

You didn't go for horrifying with that thing?

I've got a head full of snakes and they move my hand as much as I do.

Is there a good video tutorial on making pottery with soil from the ground?

I kind of want to get into pottery and sculpting to maybe make some cool things to sell them to people.

You can't just use soil. You have to use clay. Clay is thick, slick to the touch with out much grit at all and very fine compared to soil. Usually that clay isn't usable by itself and you'd have to add a frit or flux in order to reduce it's melting temperature. Your best bet is to go to your local college or colleges ceramics department and askif they know anything about local clay deposits and how they behave in a kiln.

Just buying clay is pretty fucking cheap though. If there's any place near you, you can usually buy 50LB of it for less than 20 dollars.

The hard part is firing it. Most people don't have access to something that will controlled heat something to 1800 degrees F.

is sculpting even viable anymore now with all the 3d printers and shit? unless you know to model 3d also, dying breed
>>

Well a personal 3D printer costs as much as a car, while clay and a furnace are comparably less expensive.

Oh wow... that is terrifying.

I've turned my hands to pottery recently but its something I can only do sporadically, next course is in Feb.

I've been doing wheel throwing in the last couple of courses but I'd like to do more life sculpture at some point
