Seriously, I don't know how people think wanting to mutilate themselves to the point of changing gender "because they feel trapped" is not a mental illness but they see a guy who wants to get all the plastic surgery in the world to become a dragon "because he feels trapped' and then think, "Wow, he's crazy".

It's the same goddamn thing. "Feeling trapped" means it's a feeling means it's a brain problem, not an actual problem.

I always compare gender identity disorder (GID) to body integrity identity disorder (BIID) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_integrity_identity_disorder
BIID is understood to be caused by damage or malformation of certain brain structures. The causes of GID are less understood but may be very similar, and possibly even involve the exact same structures. Yet some people say it's okay to let people mutilate themselves in cases of GID, but almost no one is okay with people self-amputating in cases of BIID.
