That actually takes skill that of which isn't something Proko has trained for.

FZD's curriculum seems pretty superior right about now. Although, it focuses a lot on imagination and mind placement instead of sight, so it's hard to teach without a hands on mentor.

I expect he'll catch onto imagination drawing pretty fast after a few months deliberately practicing it. He has the fundamentals, he's just not used to applying them to imagination drawing. He'll definitely get better at it at a faster rate than someone without his background experience.

That's kind of a general question, but I'll give it a shot and then I have to get going. The most important thing to focus on first is the type of foundation stuff you'd find at art center or FZD - visual communication (Scott Robertson's books/videos), dynamic sketching (Peter Han). Look up info on these topics and maybe take some classes (in person is best but online will do), it's also good to get into some life drawing classes but it's not absolutely required.

Then you have to use these skills to draw a lot and give yourself projects to practice designing all the time - props, environments, characters, vehicles, etc. Always find reference images before you begin a project. It's hard to learn design so again, I recommend taking some design classes from people who know what they're doing, with instructor feedback (CGMW for example). Painting skills are also good to learn but are less important than design and drawing skills, and drawing is basically a foundation for painting so learn that first.

Obviously no two artists are alike and some have gone about it completely differently, but I think what I've laid out is the most reliable way on average.

I was burning for art as a young boy, I loved doing it, but my art teacher, a very knowledgable lady, said that I had to go for other things in life, I just didn't have a ligameme in either hand.
