how do i learn how every kind of shadow and light falls on a face? do i have to make a load casts/value studies?
Know that shadow is bound by form, and that light is liberated. Light is allowed to gently, and casually, do whatever the fuck it wants to. Light's a bit of a douchebag in this regard. Able to change the hardness of shadows with its presence.
Smooth plane changes have a smooth value gradation and thus have "smooth" or softer form shadows.
Light gently scatters across the innumerable planes with its presence.
Abrupt plane changes have an abrupt value gradation and thus have "abrupt" or harder form shadows.
Light gets confused, bouncing off planes and missing planes altogether, A decisive victory for the Shadow side.
Shadows cling to forms like writing clings to paper; bound by the plane it is on. Raytracing, etc. etc.
Light flows like water distributing itself evenly. Angle of incidence, and all that
all of lighting is affected by the environment it is in, and the forms it interacts with,
>TL;DR know every plane of the face first.
