Interesting. The humanoid bug guy inked in a sort of Moebius style is miles ahead of the rest of your work. It actually looks professional and a lot of your others tuff beginner tier. You have a nice inking style, you should do more of those.

But then as I scrolled down I noticed a bunch of stupid spam bullshit like "FREE POKEMON GO COINS" or "FREE STEAM GIFT CARDS" and whatnot. Is this another spam account or is there some other bullshit going on here?

From my experience there seem to be three kinds of spam accounts. Porn, Pokey Mongo and fucking CHILD ABUSE.

I really don't get what they expect to get out of it. I got followed by a bunch of blogs with the theme "date local girls asap" with supposed pictures and names of the girls. It's so blatantly obvious that they are just the same type of ad you'd see on pornsites. The sort of ad that wouldn't lead anywhere. Do they expect to get follows? I Make a post pointing out the artistic merits of the people I follow and have just found. Congratulating them and urging them to continue, making them feel like they aren't alone on this journey. All of these people are not bad, they are on their journey. Often we as artist focus on shortcomings of ourselves (and, in some cases, the shortcomings of others to buffer our own fears of inadequacy) and even though over- praising can be toxic, having someone who likes your work say something nice to you can be a deciding factor on whether it's even worth continuing as you were.

I think the anon you were referring to was one from a while ago, who would look at everyone's blog and rate it shit/ok/boring or good. He got a lot of unwarranted hate. I don't agree with that because he would follow up with a detailed post if you asked him of your shortcomings. I miss him, and I also believe the "post your work" argument is flawed in the same way that you don't need to be a master director to know a movie is bad, or a professional songwriter to know a song is poorly writen. Anyone can give critique and even a critique that is just "its shit" can be valid. So I agree with you in a sense yes. There is a very negative kneejerk reaction to most critique and it is damaging

but, I am simply someone who is already watching the vast majority of people posting on here who is a fucking normie that has trouble talking to people without anonymity. I really do like the work that these people do, and want to congratulate them on the work they do but I feel like I am too awkward sending a note and whenever I leave a comment on someone's work I feel kinda like I'm interrupting them or bothering them. I doubt that people don't know who I am at this point, but still, I feel like I can talk here to them more than there. I dunno, I'm fucked. aren't we all. It's just nice to see so many aspiring people here with talents of their own

Here's the thing that autists don't understand:
It's polite to say thank you to a compliment, even an unconstructive one. It's a gesture of "keep doing what you're doing," it feels good to receive it, and it's generally shitty to shoot down compliments even if you disagree with them, it just makes you come off as a cunt. Even a modest person shouldn't reject a compliment. This is far from unique to /ic/.
An unconstructive "it's shit" will pretty fucking obviously not warrant any thanks, it informs the recipient they're doing "something" wrong but offers no explanation. That's 90% of the time what ratings in these threads are. Some anonymous fuckwit who might not have drawn a day in his life replying "3/10" is of no use to anybody, and unlike a compliment it doesn't provoke any positive emotions. If it surprises you that one will be better received than the other, you might be autistic.
It's very rare I actually see well thought-out criticisms be received negatively except by our select few well-known narcissists. The trouble is that well thought-out criticism is remarkably rare on this board, so you see a lot of "post your work" as a dismissive answer to worthless 'critique' wherein the poster seems to try and lean on some inherent authority with the expectation people do as they say with zero valid explanation why.

Well, I wouldn't say stick to line art but your (chromatinkers) inked stuff is light years beyound your digital painting. Like that japanese castle you did in pen and ink. That was some truly quality work, and your digital paintings are kind of average and "meh" in comparison. If you somehow learn to marry the skills you have in penk and ink with digital I think you'd be really on something.

Youre probably the same guy from an ealier thread that said the same thing about the ink castle. While I like doing ink stuff, I actually am not too fond of that piece. There may be some way to integrate the hatching technique with digital in a nice way, and maybe Ill investigate that.

Just big words with little explanation, comes off as a typical shitpost around here, hence "post yer work". Truthfully I dont put much effort into the ink stuff, I like to paint more actually. And while drawing and doing rough rendering in pen is enjoyable, I really do not like doing tight linework and have turned work down before for that reason.

But youre both right, I need to pull up the slack on the painting and find some ways to differentiate myself from the pack.

I rarely do comics. I'm planning on doing more webcomics but I lack the time.
I'm still updating my page and more stuff will come in the future.

Having a full time job is a bless but also takes a lot of time to do what you enjoy in your free time. And in my case is doing my illustrations.

Honestly? i've only ever done like... 10 total commissions, and a lot of those were tattoos. I got some advice from an illustrator I looked up to take my stuff offline and work on improving for a while, that way potential employers wouldn't find a bunch of WIPS or low quality pieces if they decided to search me up.
