Do I have to get an art degree or an art school diploma of some sort to sell my paintings at a good price ?

I know theses diplomas are useless to learn art nowadays, but I feel like people will not spend a good amount of money on a painting if the painter don't have any classic art education, even if the painting is great in terms of fundamentals and appeal.

Do art degrees/art school diplomas gives you more credibility to the public ?
>>
go to a couple galleries and have a chat with the chick behind the counter, she'd know what the public asks about the artist

The public can't name 2 art schools. Art directors can barely name 2 design schools.

As a freelancer, I can charge more when people sees my diploma. It's one of "those" fucking papers.

I. E: You can be a great driver. The best driver in the world. You could be driving since age 12 without any accident, you can give driving lessons to F1 racers, but without a driver's license, you aren't legally allowed to drive.

Same to any STEM career. Without a degree you can't work.

Tl:dr Degree = You can charge more. If people asks why you show them your degree.

Couldn't agree more OP.

Cancelled my schoolism membership, sold my tablet, and threw away all of my sketchbooks.

Such a waste of time. And for what? It's completely unnecessary and serves no purpose.
Art is not needed, especially in today's society where the intellect, personality, and face reigns supreme.

To be honest, the "artistic lifestyle" seems almost like a childish endeavour at this point, and I don't mean any disrespect, but it seems like the most serious artists (asides from guys who are legit conceptartists/illustrators/porn artists but they represent a very low % of dedicated lifters) are also the people with nothing else going on in their lives.
I know this was true with me, I was biggest and most serious about drawing when I was still in uni, working only 15 hours a week, and pretty much just plucking around all the time, going out, with no real life.
To all you kids out there who are getting sucked into the comerical art , try to stop yourself.
So long as you have and maintain decent facial aesthetics, you'll be fine.
Art just not worth it.

cheers

Actually, as a freelancer, you can charge whatever the hell you want. I guess you can use it as a line of dialogue to advance the bargaining stage but if you'd said you were "atelier trained" or some-such it would be the same shit.

Meh, each to their own, there are thousands of "professions" out there and each can be used as a tool for looking from a different perspective.
>Facial asthetics - ha - most people don't have them and just lament in their misery.
>intellect, personality and face reigns supreme - sounds more like you'd be more into acting
>Are also the people with nothing else going on in their lives - how would you know, they could be having the time of their lives, living grand with a godly paycheck while hanging with people possessing intellect, personality and a face!
Simply put, your goal wasn't clear enough, you'll have to risk a lot more then 15 hours a week to get to the top.
Furthermore, I grieve for you brother, you just wasted dreams that many would die for.

Honestly art is the area of study I'd be most apt to say "don't fucking go to school for it" unless you want to be an art teacher or something. When you consider the low success rates of artists it's much more viable to major in an area where you can find a job to at least eat and live your life, or if that's not for you, spend your time working to fund your artistic endeavors that you do yourself. Art, unlike brain surgery, doesn't require that you go to school to do well, you get better at it by working at it and the only reason you get better in Uni is because they make you work at it a lot. The point I'm getting at is, if you're good you're good, and if you have a decent portfolio and actually know your shit, people won't turn you away just because you don't have a degree you sank tens of thousands of dollars into. If you are good at what you do, you're good at what you do.

School has too shit of a structure for art in which you have to constantly do stuff over and over again. But really, what are the other options if not school?
>>
>>2810017
Unless you have a cowbell on your surname you aren't going to make it anyway. Until you've died in poverty at least...
>>
instead of spending 100k on an art degree, spend 25k on some elaborate marketing and self promotion scheme. that's all it takes to succeed in fine art anyway.

spend 10k on the stunt, pay some reporters 3k each in exchange for an article about 'how bold, talented and fearless' you are, and done.

the more disgusting and cultural-marxistly degenerate your stunt, the better.

>sell my paintings at a good price ?
ffs /ic/ its just circlejerking and scams.

rich people just want colors that match the shit they have in their living room. do that, but on a large canvas.

no normie has good taste when it comes to art quality, all they care about is interesting shit to look at/ brag about. just do whatever, and take it seriously when they ask you about it.

good PR costs like 20k. invest in a giant canvas and put down nice colors in artistic way. pay someone (art museums can do it sometimes) to frame it for you.

be an angsty, insufferable, troubled hipster douche. spin a yarn about how you were raped and be rich already.

fuck.
