So, I read on here an awful lot about non-artist folk (clients) who often have nothing but bad times or experiences with artists they commission. Waiting times, sending payments only for the artists to stop caring, artists being rude and not caring about their work etc etc

So, I ask this board community not just for myself but for upcoming and experienced artists here: What can we do as artists to please the clients?
>>
Do what your paid to do and be on time. There isn't really more to it. It's so simple and yet many artists can't even do that.
>>
finish what they want in a timely manner

Don't be a nigger and work.

Don't be a jew and deliver.
>>
Do your work on time.
>>
Its because anyone who wants to be a legit artist has a good chance of being an anti social autistic loser, so interacting with them is much like trying to talk to them irl.
>>
>>2807432
Oh I played the game where that pic is from. Good stuff. I'd give it an 8/10.

Also, the only thing you can really do is hone your skills well enough to work well AND fast. That's it.
>>
>>2807490
Are you saying artists shouldn't talk their clients, ask questions, be outgoing? You're an idiot.
>>
>>2807542
You are proving my point. I was only saying the majority of artist are anti social autists who incapable of interacting with people irl (me), and you some how have strawmanned my words and insulted me.
>>
>>2807558
I simple misunderstood you. I agree, I think artists should learn to talk more. The more you talk to your client the more you can understand what they want thus making the final product something they truly love and would come back to you later.
>>
>>2807564
If clients could express themselves, they wouldn't need an artist to do it for them.
>>
>>2807565
People pay artists for stuff that can't do themselves. The artist also needs to ask questions, you can't blame the client for everything.

The problem with clients is that a lot of them are just failed artists who just want to see their shit drawn. But failed artists aren't the "rich" type of people looking to start a comic company, so they dont have an easy 10,000 dollars to waste on commissions.
>>
>>2807578
I don't get what you're trying to say here. Sounds like your attacking people for being poor.
>>
Your work on time.

my rates are pretty low for my skill and I take payment only after I finish, so fuck'em, if they have any complaints, they can always cancel it (never occured though)

Attacking people for being poor? I dont have $10,000 to requests a commission. Heres what im trying to say: there are two type of commissioners: 1.) artists who dropout of of college to pursue art, but they one day realize they will never have the skill to ever create their own comic. They dont really care about the art in the end, they just want to see their idea brought to life, so its more like they're more of writers than artists, so in a final resort, they go pay someone to draw out their comic. Only problem, comic comissions can cost a lot of money. And thats just for the art, you still need to pay a writer, and and marketer to get your comic across to customers. But the problem is, yo2u never went to business school to do this. You dont have the money to hire a crew of writers, artists, and advertisers to bring your idea to life, because because you wasted your time trying to pursue both. So, the 2.) commissioner would be someone whose legit rich, and can easily spend 20,000 to start a comic or animation company.

This is why I really commend mangaka who both write and draw out their comic, because not only does your drawing have to be top notch, you have to have good story telling skills that sell. A lot of people cant do this, and you should only focus on perfecting one craft. But, imo, its easier for an artist to get a writer on board with something, than a writer to get an artist on board with something. Its easy to perfect art, but its hard af to know whats a story that going to sell.
>>
>>2807578
Yeah! Let's complain about people paying us money for a service! Yeah fuck'em.
>>
>>2807605
Why would any non-artist random start a comic company?
>>
Concept artist here, it's not usually the artists who are the shitty part of the relationship.

>I'll pay you if you do this great idea!
>paint said really great idea
>spend days/weeks on it
>here's 20 bucks
>they edit it in photoshop

FUCK shitty clients
>>
>>2807619
Why are you only charging $20?
>>
>>2807613

Because they're manchildren who never got past the edgy manga phase.

Well, the only difference with artists is that they never pursued art in the first place.
>>
>>2807619

Well any piece worth $20 would actually require some PS edits to look decent.
>>
>invoices
>50/50 prepayment with no return and limited redraws
>I cancel your commision and return money if you annoing fuck
>always show final image with big as fuck watermark

I don't understand this thread. I don't have problems
>>
>>2807490
>Its because anyone who wants to be a legit artist has a good chance of being an anti social autistic loser
That's half the problem.
The other half is that most people who commission artists on the internet and then complain about it on 4chan are also very likely to be anti social autistic losers, which is why they get conned, wait for 3 years for some dude to draw a picture for them, ad then feel the whole thing is settled because they made a thread about it on 4chan and got anonymous autists to confirm the artist is a faggot.
>>
>>2807642
I'm assuming you do your work on time, it seems a lot of others don't and do it when they feel like it.
>>
>>2807613
Because business is business. You need to be educated in the hierarchy of media companies. Its a bit of paradox how some many people(including me) want to animate anime, but in reality, we have the least amount of influence out of anyone. From lowest to highest:

artists
art directors
writers
marketers
financers
company president
board of councils

The person higher up, is in charge of giving money to the people lower than them. And, marketers are the people chosen by the board of councils to be an anime companies's next president, and this is judged by how well the marketers are good at knowing who the best animation directors and writers are(the people that make cartoons that sell). Animators probably have the most stress, because its so competitive, they're so bottom of the chain, that one will screw up, they'll be replaced like the shit stain sheet of toilet paper you are. So anyway, now to your question:

Why would any non-artist random start a comic company?

because a lot of marketers and financiers that work for a cartoon studio are just looking for whatever job they can get. A lot company presidents are people in charge of other business, and they are just keeping said cartoon company because they make some money off it.

Dont get me wrong, artists can start their own company. Gainax was started by 4 weebs out of animation school. But eventually, they need people with business degrees, and then these people take over the company. Of course, some artists make enough money off their job, and have enough money to start a company right off the back, but this is a really difficult thing to do too, since, this goes back to my earlier point, a lot of commissioners are failed artists whose only income are minimum wage job.
>>
>>2807643
Why would anyone need to wait for 3 years?
>>
>>2807650
You must be new here.
>>
>>2807650

You don't need to wait for 3 years. The problem is someone taking the money and running with it, and the anon taking far too long to realize he got ripped off.

Some people who do commissions just take everyone's money who offers and then put out a commission here and there to seem like they're doing all of them.

>>2807675
Isn't that theft?

To answer your question.

Just cancel your schoolism membership, sell your tablet, and throw away all of your sketchbooks.

Such a waste of time. And for what? It's completely unnecessary and serves no purpose.
Art is not needed, especially in today's society where the intellect, personality, and face reigns supreme.

To be honest, the "artistic lifestyle" seems almost like a childish endeavour at this point, and I don't mean any disrespect, but it seems like the most serious artists (asides from guys who are legit conceptartists/illustrators/porn artists but they represent a very low % of dedicated lifters) are also the people with nothing else going on in their lives.
I know this was true with me, I was biggest and most serious about drawing when I was still in uni, working only 15 hours a week, and pretty much just plucking around all the time, going out, with no real life.
To all you kids out there who are getting sucked into the comerical art , try to stop yourself.
So long as you have and maintain decent facial aesthetics, you'll be fine.
Art just not worth it.

cheers
