You are symbol drawing in your portrait. The figure is leaning at an opposing angle to the reference.

It doesn't even look like you were trying with this image.

When drawing or paintg, start with the biggest shape or shapes first then slowly cut down to the details. A good way to avoid symbol drawing is to draw the NEGATIVE space around your subject instead of the space itself.

When drawing from observation, don't think of your subject, in this case, a face, as a face, instead, see it as a bunch of weird abstract shapes.
