Did he make it?
>>2795980
he's the historic equivalent of /ic/
>always tried really hard,
>put way to much effort into pieces that look like garbage
>never got paid to make art.
>was actually mentally ill
>has good color theory sometimes
>>2795985
no, hes actually the antithesis of /ic/ and the internet-art crowd.
He didn't give a fuck about fundamentals in his art, he would never take shitty commissions for a buck, and he actually had mental problems unlike most of /ic/ who are just simply posers and rude assholes.

>He didn't give a fuck about fundamentals in his art
I still see an adherence to line and form, as well as a good grasp of colour theory.

put it in his contemprary context
he wouldve if he didnt die so young.

The fuck are you talking about, he went out of his way to learn perspective and everything else. Once he mastered that he moved on to more personal, post-impressionistic painting. His early letters to theo are nothing but stressing about perspective and the cool tool he built to make perspective easier.

>the cool tool he built to make perspective easier.
arguably his worst offense. The worse his perspective is the more I enjoy his paintings for the most part. I like when he would just freehand measurements. By the end of his life he didn't even need to draw on the canvas he would start painting right away, so for all his bellyaching he more or less got to where he wanted to go.

His father died at 63.
>>2795980
He made it... way too late. The guy was a genius of color theory and composition, and his style was as unique as his character.
posthumously
