Do you guys have experience with portrait commissions? I've been doing portraits for a while and some people are interested in my work. How accurate do you have to be and what happens when the likeness if off?

Just stay away from lesbians and their goddamn dogs. They will pay out the ass but it isn't worth it.
Should I just jump in doing them or wait till my skill level improves?

If you're not sure just give them a low res file/photo and if they don't like it they don't have to pay and you're not giving away a high res drawing.
You'll get practice and if they like it good for you.

Not me personally, but an acquaintance and multiple anons have done photo/art jobs for dykes with dogs and it's always the same bullshit. They have these autistic specifications beyond the going rate and hound you to no end. It's like working for furfags except irl and they fucking call you twice a day and make you change everything even after they okayed it.
Autism is a hell of a drug.

I'm an atelier trained artist so the proportions are spot on however i usually take a lot of liberties with the color and lighting. I usually show them a few thumbnail sketches before i do the finalized piece

Then I keep working on it until its presentable sometimes ill trace the image if i want to move quickly or if I'm having any difficulty capturing the likeness
