Of course you can because the majority of people still believe you can't. This opens up a lot of opportunity. The thing you will have to learn is making contacts in the art world. What people are willing to buy and for what purpose then you gear yourself towards that.

You can EASILY work in a video game studio if you know how to use Flash or Photoshop. Or even better, a 3D program. I work at a place where most 3D artists don't or can't draw. Doesn't mean they're not kickass when making a model from reference.

You can go the traditionnal way of exposing in galeries and all that jazz. I've seen people make it. But they are heavily into the art scene and that's how they made their names.

Work slowly toward where you want to go but take steps. Buy books, draw, create, meet people, go to places where art is made and soon enough you'll wonder how you ended up with a job in art. Until you realize you might have been better off working in a factory but that's another discussion.
