I've tried the art forums, discord groups, etc. and was kind of disappointed by the vibe. I wonder if it's a little like the bystander effect, where having so many people posting dissuades people from really pushing one another. It's usually a few people really working and a bunch of people mostly just shooting the shit.
I want to find one art bud around my skill level who's down to communicate regularly (perhaps daily) and wants to compete with the goal of the two of us pushing one another to grow like a couple flowers or some shit. I'm in Seattle btw. Here's where's I'm at skill wise. It'd be chill if you're on a similar level.
This is like Grindr for artbuds, buttfuck it yo.

Your best bet are those groups you mention. Talk actively and sooner or later you'll click with someone and start to mostly just talk to them instead of the group. That's the biggest and probably only upside of the shitfests these groups usually turn in to imo.
Personality is the biggest killer when it comes to this shit, at least it has been for me, so finding any art people who are around my own brainwave is pretty cool, regardless if they're better or worse than me.
Good luck though, it's definetly a motivation boost having someone like this around you. I'm pretty nonchalant about art, i just doodle figures for an hour or two every day to unwind, so probably wouldn't do much for ya. Pic related is last 5 days. Been trying to spend longer on fewer figures lately, used to just spam unfinished gesture-like shit.

I feel strongly about animal illustration, so here's some thoughts I had about your maned wolf.
It looks like you are going for a painty and simple look, so I get that there would not be much fur definition.
It is still important that the basic groups of fur are defined. Identifying groups of fur help to define the form, keep proportions in check, and makes the animal seem more alive.
I hope I'm making sense.
Of course, if you don't paint many animals, you can ignore this.

Be the change you want to see, lead by example and ignore the beginners trying to give advice that's out of their depth as well as the trolls. That's how people get shit done here.

I would help you out with this but I know for a fact I would lose the willpower to continue with it after a day or do and I can't handle being a disappointment to another person
I prefer one art soulmate too, but I'm not available daily. Nice studies, though. Can anyone post their classified ad in this thread?
>>2774079
I found my art soulmate. Maybe. I don't know if he thinks the same about me. Do you think he does? no homo
>>2776726
Does he text you first and ask you to collab?
>>2776876
I want to text him but he's probably gonna try to call me or be fb friends and I don't want him to know that I am secretly a grill
>>2774079
I like you're style. Do you have a blog or such?
