What forms of art are the most permanent. I feel like digital art will all be forgotten when we transition to the next big thing post-internet. What can we use to make a legacy? I've been thinking of learning sculpting or knife making. What do?

Make your porn in woodcut so future generations can print them.

Sculpted rock. We literally have examples from tens of thousands of years ago.
>I feel like digital art will all be forgotten when we transition to the next big thing post-internet
That's dumb. Digital as a medium will stick around for a long time, though maybe not your specific psd files.

Yeah, I'm worried because the art isn't a physical object.

Worry first about making something that is worth preserving.

I already can.

The concept of permanence is meaningless in digital when you have potentially infinite indistinguishable copies. At that point it's not a matter of permanence but of value. Is it a worthwhile legacy if it isn't worth anything monetarily? How does it contribute to art as a whole?

Graffiti art. Similar to ancient cave drawings in the right place graffiti can last for hundreds of years. In dark water the tunnels with roller latex paint with an extension pole your shit will be forever. Also possible metal work and sculptures

There is no such thing as "post-internet"
Digital will only get more prominent, not less.

I mean like where we transition to an improved version of the internet where our files wont work anymore. Think of it like this. Some guy's art might be saved on a floppy disk right now but nobody would have a clue.

If it's worth preserving then it will be copied into new formats. Like how Criterion is taking old films from the early days of cinema and remastering them in hi def digital formats. Luckily digital is very easy to copy and can be done repeatedly.
Transience is actually good
