Looks like a retarded version of James Turrell's work.
>>
Oh my God, do you have a HD photo of that?

I'm getting tingles in my aural rosacea just from the tumbnail!

I like modern art galleries like this, assuming that's what it is. Atleast it's somewhat aesthetic and pleasing to the eyes. There's something about big open spaces with a few colored lights here and there. I don't really compare it to painting or illustration, it's not art to me in the same sense. More like interior design or something along those lines. But I can find enjoyment just walking around these places because they often have a sort of meditative tranquility to them.

I love James Turrell, wish I could have gone to moma for his show. However this guy seems different. He doesn't try to hide his lights, and the actually object making the light seems important in his pieces
>>
>>2761406
fuck, meant guggenheim not moma
>>
>>2761388
I like modern art too but this is shit and you're deluded

this on the other hand
>>2761406
would be cool to see in person. roden crater too.
>>
>>2761378
i interpret it as two sides of self, the good and the bad, or it could be emotion vs rationality; they appear to be the same light but illuminate different colour
>>

thats gay

>d-dont like what I dont like!
>>
Pretty sure stuff like this exists for white girls to take insta pics next to and advertise the "gallery"
>>
>>2761498
I'm fine with a diversity of opinions, but there's a limit. You like Rothko, even Damien Hirst, all right, whatever. But a couple of shop lights leaned against the wall? It's a pretentious joke at best.
>>
it's bullshit. I hate contemporary art and artists. they are frauds.
>>
>>2761519
>i dont understand it and that makes me angry!
>>
>>2761532
This, exactly. Not meming. Art needs to have an experience to it beyond "Yeah dude it looks cool!" That's how you get Jappy looking world of warcraft dreck.
>>
>>
>>2761549
Yes, art is one of the greatest courses you can go through for you learn much more important things than STEM. Not that anyone cares. They only care about what they see apparently. The materialistic things.

>muh materialism

So were you always a marxist or did the faculty of your $75,000 art school give you a gentle push to the left on your way out the door and onto the street? Did they at least leave you with a couple of store-bought fluorescent lights like the picture in the OP so you could start your own exhibit?
>>
>>2761560
>marxist
Confirmed pseudo-intellectual /pol/ user. Have you read any of marx's work?
>>

THERE IS NOTHING TO UNDERDSTAND ABOUT IT. You moron.

You're wasting your time here, man. This board is for high school kids trying to get jobs using photoshop to make stuff for video game promo art.

I've seen much better modern art, but I can appreciate this.
I think that to truly appreciate works like this you have to be familiar with modern art history. The context of the progression of ideas is very, maybe even too, important. It's kinda like the period in poetry when it got so self-referencial that people who didn't study poetry for a living couldn't even begin to understand it. At least this is still aestheticslly pleasing.

Most truthful post of the thread.

It's a Dan Flavin work, probably from some time in the 1960s. Predates James Turrell's light installations.

>It's a pretentious joke at best
>can anyone explain this to me?

It's not pretending to be anything other than what it is. Flavin really was just arranging lights to see how different combinations of colors and arrangements effect the space. It's actually about as unpretentious as you can get.
>>
>>2761406
that's neat! kind of magical really.
>>
>>2762814
This one is 100x better than the image in the OP. James Turrell still takes the cake though.
>>
>>2761378
Inaccessible art like James Turrell's rubbish is all the rage in galleries. It's oriented around philosophical nonsense that the artist will spout incessantly. It isn't likely to be of interest to any normal person.
>>
>>2763220
what philosophical nonsense? it's cool lights dude, nothing more than light creating the illusion of volume or depth. roden crater is oriented around astrological shit but that is neither inaccessible or new.
>>
>>2761596
dumb asses. okay I guess that's why you see this as a "art".

>it's not art
>>
>>2763240
>lelele I decide the definition of art.
I'm not a fan of it either, but I'd call it bad art rather than non-art.
