Can you maybe post a video of your process someday here on /ic/ for us to see?
Or if you can't do that take a bunch of pics of your process as you move through the drawing? Do you have an instagram or name?
>>2788505
Honestly I don't know how to edit videos to look properly, neither I have the camera and devices to do that. I like the idea, but for now I can only take many pictures or scan the process with an explanation of what I am doing.
I have no instagram but that's another good idea, let me make an account with a few pics and tomorrow will post it here, I also always sign my drawings as "gt"
I don't have any academic knowledge about drawing, it's just a hobby (I'm a chemist) but this year I found on youtube an artist called Steve Carpenter, their videos are very helpful: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiqDdKu5cz9LnU7nDKvPk2w

looking alright, try drawing some dogs from life or if you get lucky and can find some deer long enough

start pushing forms and contour hatching to maximize the legibility of your drawings.
push your forms into abstraction and then pull them back into realism.

Sorry for the confusion; I'm not really looking to improve my messy pencil lines as I'm more of a digital painter. Traditional sketching is only for my studies.

drawing will help you with anything. traditional pencil work will help you with digital painting. remember your work is only as good as you can see. or your hand is only as good as your eye.
does that make sense? understanding abstraction of forms and being able to control that is vital.

don't worry about overworking some drawings and even turning decent sketches into bad ones. keep drawing with pen (I like ballpoint) and draw from life as much as you can.
If you're serious about drawing you are good enough to get into a school. but art is about 1/3 skill 1/3 concept 1/3 will

you need to do alot more figure drawing though. look at more Goya and Bernini.
work alot on perspective and placing the subject into a space, maybe check out some good manga or old anime like OG dragonball.
you're going to have to work through making aot of bad work doing hard drawings till this kinda work starts looking good enough. but it will if you follow the classic path of the craft
>>2792434
My goal has always been to be an animator. I've been working on a comic to give me stuff to work with. Old mangas and anime have always been a bit of drag for me like Goya/ etc.
I've been more so watching cartoons along the lines of Turok, and low budget beef cake action movies in place of your suggestions. I like the real grit over the over the top animatics.
I was thinking more or less keeping up with rapid fire random poses with objects/environments would work in place of staring at mechanical pieces that lacked life. I have a jist of the basics. I kinda want to get to the same level I am traditionally digitally before I get into a soul sucking study. More or less thinking of having my my friend with benefits help me with some pose studies doing more dynamic birds eyes and worm eye views.
>>2792483
you gotta get into the classics somehow, it doesn't have to be my suggestions but they are there for a reason
the reason to watch animation is to study it, you won't get the same from watching film
I never said to draw mechanical items, you clearly need to draw people and animals with small settings if you want to improve in the same direction.
from an art teacher, I'm saying that drawing with charcoal and pen from live models is going to be great for you
>>2792505
I know the classics are there for a reason. I've done a few pose studies off from them, as well as just trying to figure out the strokes, flow, etc. I tend to go to them more when I hit a wall. My biggest wall I feel right now is getting accoustumed to digital. I use light contour lines usually before adding any sort of shading. I know that practicing just getting the shapes, and the shadows with charcoal would be good for me, I just feel like it's not my biggest hurdle at the moment. Might be wrong.
I struggle with models with any mass to them. I've drawn mostly off myself and ex's and none of us have had much mass. I've been focusing on trying out different body styles with my pose study practices. It's not so much them interacting with objects but with props or objects or simple things that give more foreshortening and sense to the general placement of them over just their shape.
What I was planning on doing was once I got the hang of my tablet drawing a friend in various positions using my house and furniture to get more dramatic angles. I'm kinda stubborn and determined to atleast be able to draw fine details digitally like I do traditionally before I move on to something else.
Here are some doodles from watching Tarzan and the jungle book with some kids on Christmas. I do do a lot of study on western animation. I guess I'm just biased and not that fond of anime. I know that Studio Ghibli Probably does some groundbreaking things like some studios here have, but I didn't grow up on those. I also came across a bunch of old animation cells as a kid and have fallen in love with the progression from them.
>>2792505
I watch the action movies and the cartoons like Turok more so for the comic. I've always been a bit of a fighter even though I pretend to be a lover... so it's just the setting and tone I've set for the world. Long drawn out battles and moves seem out of place. Most of the dialogue I feel should be exchanged in brief moments as part of the fight rather than exposition or just angry memes and one liners. Atleast when there's a fight. That just the biggest thing other than maybe over developing or too much pointless information Asian animation likes to throw at you. It's nice to have a world flushed out but I see animes go too far for me a lot.

I know you haven't fleshed out the anatomy, but shouldn't the front legs have an elbow joint? They look kind of odd so straight. I need to post in threads more often
>>2771721
are you a wizard wtf
inb4 pig's legs are tiny/left arm is too short
>>2797426
left arm is too short
the orc's pose is too stiff, it's very unnatural to have arms extended in a straight line like that, and the arms themselves are at an almost 90° angle from each other
boar's pose is much more natural
>>2797460
good observation about the pose/angle of the arms, thanks.
>>2797460
Fuck, now that I'm looking at it, everything you said about the straight arms, etc. is so glaringly obvious I'm disappointed in myself for not being able to identify it on my own. That's what I get for tweaking out on details, I guess.
>>2797462
more planning/sketching before starting and gesture drawing from observation will fix that, as well as the anatomical inconsistencies
Otherwise you know how to render but I would advise using different hardnesses to get more values, as well as using a more focused light source. E.g. the shoulder plates aren't shaded properly and their shape is unclear. You get the jist of it. Great job!

not your fault!
I assume this is traditional work, it's good practice to keep a mirror handy. Put the mirror sideways leaning against the bridge of your nose and close one eye so you see the reflection in it. it does miracles for these issues that tend to go over your head

Is the orc huge or are his enemies tiny?

happy to help anon!
I havent sketched much, been working on 3D and big projects

thats a cute snoot

the boar looks leagues better than the orc. What happened
I always seem to have good ideas when doodling in my notebook during class. At this point it's 80% drawings 20% notes. It doesn't help that it comes out skewed because I'm writing on a flat desk.

I quite like these
>>2798798
I'm glad you figured out how to use your words bud, now just be a bit more specific.
>>2798805
What are you even talking about you dumb fuck? I told you that they are drawn worse than the popular cartoon styles you derived them from.
You need anatomy work and fundamental form work. You're drawing like that and distorting anatomy because you can't draw it realistically. If those drawings had realistic bodies and forms they would be much more interesting.
Kill yourself you hack.
>>2798809
There you go, finally something resembling reasonable feedback.
I would argue that my anatomy isn't terrible; case in point >>2798795. With my more stylized stuff the anatomy is most certainly secondary to the style, and I have fun with them. Realism is not the holy grail, Anon.
I fail to see how I'm a hack, I'm not presenting this as anything other than what it is. I'm not profiting in any way, I just like showing my work because I know a small portion of this board appreciates it.
>>2798817
If you think that the anatomy on that is good you're just grasping at straws.
If you are great at realism you are better at any stylized work you produce. There is no arguing that.
A classic and realistic drawing skill set from formal work or genuine study makes you a better artist.
If you don't belive that you're an idiot or just ignorant and enjoying your own hug box.
Understanding form and measurement is important even in total abstract pieces.
>>2798828
Can you point out any major issues on the piece? I know the implied forms aren't fantastic but I think the proportions are solid at the very least (apart from some of the facial features, that is).
I'm aware of these things; I draw from life from time to time to keep myself somewhat fresh. I have never denied that or said anything to the contrary, I just like having fun in my sketchbook.

Thanks for the suicide encouragement thread

The hands and neck are trash. The head to neck connection looks like a propane tank. The torso and hips are one piece and not separate forms attached by the abdomen. The ankles don't exist and are drawn like they connect to the feet like the fat end of a goalies hockey stick. Etc...etc...etc...etc...
The interior form isn't even proportional to the exterior form of the body and it's lines don't evenly approach the exterior body's lines.
There is no point in defending it. If you can't consistently construct stuff realistically to begin with any abstractions or style choices made are going to suffer in one way or another. You can't talk your way out of that point.
It's just the truth.
If you have some beautifully done realistic body forms, landscapes, and architecture drawings you can time stamp I will shut the fuck up and eat my words. But if you want your fun to be better art you should focus more sketch book time to drawings like the OP post or better.

Hi Anon. I think it's nonsensical to judge your drawing on the basis of realism, so I'll look at other things.
When you work in this kind of simplistic, cartoony style, these other elements of art become extremely important. In this case, poses, composition and line quality.
Your strongest drawings are the ones like right in >>2798793, left in >>2798789 etc. These all have in common that the poses read well as silhouettes. You're deep into cartooning so you should be really careful with that. If you turn the whole figure black, you should be able to see what's going on. If you don't, scratch it.
Line quality is really important too. I sadly can't point you to this one really skilled artist (can't remember if she's primarily a tattoo artist) who's got a similar style to yours, but she achieves much stronger drawings by making the lineart extremely polished. She chooses the line weight for outlines and details very carefully. Your weakest drawings are the sloppiest. Simple doesn't mean sloppy. You can't be sloppy.
Otherwise great job, you're good. I like your drawings a lot.

>>2798960
He's not deep into cartooning. That's all he does to begin with and does so poorly. He's very clearly taking inspiration from cartoons like super jail, adventure time, Rick and morty, among other ones I can't recall and doing so poorly.
Secondly read this >>2798924
The third point would be the line quality issues you brought up. They are shaky and inconsistent. He should vary his line weight more and taper them in some spots. Or use a paint brush or dip pen and not just one single line weight for the entire drawing.
Granted. I hate the style but nothing I have said is wrong. If he did "his style" better I wouldn't be telling him it's total shit.
It's very clear the person does them because people respond positively to it because it's quirky and weird. Just because it gets praise doesn't mean it's good art and most modern art and senior projects at art schools show that peer praise doesn't mean it's good art or an artist deserves to be called one.
If he wants to be a better cartoonist and artist he should go back to the sticky and hard.
>>2798974
Hi Anon. Being harsh is OK but it should be backed up by meaningful advice. In my book it's more productive to say one of two things that would make the current art work better.
>>2798991
What you're really saying is...
>you're a meanie and I don't like it because instead of actually making someone see why they are bad I want to coddle them in a hug box
Not gonna make it.
Same reason why everyone thought hillary was going to win. Hug boxes do not do well nor do they produce their promised results. We will see the same shit as everyone hug boxes about trump's terrible policy plans.
Telling this guy he needs to improve with nice words is just going to reaffirm for him that his art is good and it is the same reason he keeps drawing the way he does because people say "it belongs on a trip shirt in a skate shop". It's stupid.
This person needs to go work on hard fundamentals, anatomy and form, shading, value, texture, and line work and the COKE BACK to this style of art he us making and it WILL BE MUCH BETTER.
Thanks for the advice all
Happy new years fags

Nicely done
