I used to watch FZD a lot, but it's RIP. Any good/useful youtube channels to watch to learn design/painting/drawing/... all that jazz?
>>
>>2756461
Search Chris Oatley or Noah Bradley. That should be a good start for now. I used to watch their channels.
>>
>>2756467
Chris is dead too and Noah is shit

What are some channels to avoid?

>Ross Draws
>Ahmed Aldoori
>Jazza
>Sycra
>Miles Cuckston
>>
>>2756489
got any suggestions? Those were the two I sued to watch. I haven't found any other good game/movie industry artists that actively use YouTube.

Yea Noah is hit or miss. I wouldn't say he's shit though, I still respect his work. Chris is gone.

What' happened to Chris, he just stopped uploading vids and podcasts without explanation? Still doing Oatley Academy thing or whatever?

kek, I meant Bobby obviously
>>

to Sycra's credit he acknowledges that his art isn't that good and has mentioned that he fucking despises it. Some of his lessons are pretty solid though, he just has an issue where he refuses to script his vids.

Ross is too happy for my liking. It needs to stop. We get it, having a positive attitude will impact others in a positive way.
>>
>>2756517

What would happen if Ross was forced to snort a line of coke for every time he's said "Color Dodge" during his life?
>>
Sinix is ok, some of his videos are actually pretty good
>>
That autistic guy from Big Bang Theory posts some decent art videos on Youtube sometimes... Clint Cearley, yeah that's his name.
>>
>>2756518
LMFAO. I dunno but it would prolly be fucking crazy
>>
I personally like Mark Carder channel drawmixpaint. Also yeah, Robertson, Watts are good, Sinix is also ok, I like when he talks about design stuff.
>>

he was shunned by Disney and the corrupt entirety of the entertainment industry. I think he's done.

But why?

>>2756461
>but now that it's RIP
So you're looking for a channel that's still updating today?

I mean I haven't got much. Sinix is alright, even if he sounds like a bitch, and I'm a fan of Tyler Edlin's channel - if you liked FZD, that might be more up your alley, since he's all into that Chinese Render Monkey and perspective bukkake landscape aesthetic.

Bobby Chiu is alright and Xia Taptara is tolerable, but both of them kinda exemplify the modern digital commercial illustrator bad habit bargain bin. Both are active and interact with their fans constantly, though.

Dave Rapoza exists but his channel is basically just a podcast, ImagineFX is just an advertisement and the commentary is terrible, and the likes of say Mark's Drawing Tutorials which are hard to listen and also bad. Not sure what he's doing even on the fucking subscription list, I'll take him off.

>>2756495
This should probably be a nobrainer, but the channels of anyone who can't fucking draw, even if you initially like them as a person.

Eventually you'll learn the hard way that the reason that they stay bad for YEARS is because of severe personality issues, and they will ramble on for aeons to justify their processes even as they berate their art in the same sentence.

So that goes from the aforementioned Marky Mark and Sycra down to the likes of say PlagueOfGripes. You might think that having a mediocre artist pleasantly talk while you work is a good idea, but they become extremely hard to listen to them as they peddle out the same excuses and appeals to emotion over and fucking over.
>>
>>2756495
Ahmed's podcasts are pretty good though tbhh. Some of his actual videos aren't that bad either.

I'll have to agree with everything else though.

I'm confused, do people here really not have the means to find the more low profile channels or do you just like to talk shit the more well known ones for the sake of it? From the reference and study threads to the artbook thread and now this people just seem to struggle to find content without spoonfeeding.

So fuck it, open wide here comes the aeroplane.

Yeah Youtube isn't really SEO friendly or encourages finding new content at all.
>>
Twtich, bruh.

Suzanne Helmigh streams regularly on her own twitch channel as well as Adobe's twitch channel. She often talks about what she is doing and why. Makes good decisions in her work and is improving.

Ionicart also streams on twitch fairly regularly but doesn't talk or interact with chat. Usually draws characters.

Dave Rapoza and Dan Warren stream sometimes but they are fucking losers that just play the same shit video gaymes over and over. Never gonna make it.
>>
>>2757246
Suzanne can't draw, don't recommend people to watch a hack.

>>
>>2757494
It's a list of skilled artists posting their process, i'll agree in that outside of how they use layers and set about drawing its mostly useless. Same applies to almost every gumroad and bullshit training video as ultimately the person has to draw themselves.

So what the fuck are we even doing here.

A good 50% of his art is awful photobashing.

>>
>>2757828
I'm still subscribed to him but I feel like his stuff isn't too helpful. His videos are ridiculously long and I wouldn't mind that if they actually had clear, concise points but instead they're kinda just him rambling about a subject so it ends up in him failing to drive home the point. He seems like a cool dude tho, I just personally haven't found his videos that helpful.
>>
>>2757478
She is doing better than most of /ic/
It's pretty rare to see anyone here attempt a full composition. When they do it is usually terrible.
>>

>>
>>2758249
Doing better than /ic/ is sort of a moot point, she justifies her use of shortcuts under the pretense of "i work in production", I find it laughable that someone paid to stream on the Adobe channel and uses the time aspect of the concept art industry as her reasoning to take shortcuts when she doesn't even use hotkeys for the majority of things in Photoshop. Shes a dumb cunt with a reliance on 3d models and photocopying. Look at the study thread, even shit artists here can make a passable attempt at copying a photo 1:1, thats basically all shes capable of.
>>
>>2758408
I bet she draws circles around you, refs or no refs.

I'll respond seriously for the sake of it. Do you honestly not see how fast people are able to replicate photographs, theres hundreds of artists from CA, Permanoobs and Crimsondaggers that can replicate what they see to the same degree as she can. The majority of her work is derivative of the Vikings TV show or other known actors whos likeness isn't hard to find.

My point is that shes a bad role model for anyone starting out because she doesn't push herself and uses extensive crutches while trying to justify it to herself, at least look up to someone with any sense of draftsmanship. It's no surprise that shes in a relationship with Titus, a man that got his first job with stolen art in his portfolio.

Just one?

The /beg/ thread is a billion times faster than the draw threads, that should tell you enough. Now I'm not saying every /beg/ is a wiener so mad at not being good they lash out, but every single stinky wiener who does that is /beg/.
>>
>>2758449
/beg/ is full of people who don't even know these types of artists. It also happens that everyone is directed to /beg/ so it will obviously be quicker.

>>
>>2758444
Someone starting out SHOULD be using references. I don't know where you got the idea that you have to do everything from your head. Is James Gurney a hack then? Sargent? "Oh he's just copying what is in front of him." lol.

Yeah, you should avoid copying famous celeb faces too much. I'll give you that. Sticks out like a swore thumb. Even fucking Wes Burt falls for that one.

But yeah, Suzanne isn't just copying a photo like the noobs in the beg thread. She is illustrating scenes for her story and gathering refs as necessary. Pretty standard stuff.
>>
>>2756495
Ahmed is so much better than you will ever be. So is Ross.

I hate how Ross is too fucking happy all the time, but hes still good. The way he chooses to use his skill is dissapointing a bit.

Ahmed is definitely legit, hes even teaching at ArtCenter now, so shut the fuck up faggot.

I guess its a difference of perspective and i'm not properly explaining myself. If you go back and look at someone notorious like Algen and you see the huge gap in skill between studies and imagination present in his earlier work its getting closer to the void and relience im talking about and consider a negative.

An animator referencing animals normally involves them going to the source, making sketches and notes then internalising and interpreting it. The reference isn't the be all and end all in most seasoned artists cases, it serves to inform the design or answer specific questions. However in Suzannes case the reference is just that and if you were to hand the same jigsaw reference pieces to people in Study threads they'd be able to produce a similar result because the majority of what she does is just 1:1. In the picture I've posted you can probably find the section on stream where she has the exact reference for all 3 of the foreground characters, ignore the fact it started life as a 3d paintover.

To top it all off shes still technically worse than Algen after he studied for 3-4 years, and shes been working as a professional artist for longer... her skill level is a joke considering her use of shortcuts.
