Find a nice big organic brush, scribble out some forms and then work back in with the eraser and a smaller brush. I'd recommend trying to make your silhouettes in 3/4 view to keep them interesting but still somewhat symmetrical.

i'm not an artist... i fancy myself a writer... but should i become an artist?

also i have a master's in philosophy and my career path at the moment is getting a phd so i can teach full time, but i've really just wondered if i should take the artist plunge or not

i guess it doesn't hurt to be able to sketch as a hobby and as a creativity exercise (to get the engines started for writing - which I can't abandon as my primary interest)

maybe I shouldn't think so much about making money with art as using it to inspire my other efforts

i fucking *love* music (and at times wondered if i should pursue it, but turns out i don't have the patience to *become* a musician), but i can still love it

maybe loving art in some non-profit sense will keep my efforts more pure throughout life

i find sketching/doodling therapeutic and helpful in getting the creative juices going for writing
also pretty essential to world-building if you ask me (such as role playing games, writing fantasy/sci-fi, etc.)

writers/directors like Del Toro do it all the time I think

also, a recent thing i read by Schopenhauer stuck with me - the idea that one can often get more of an impression of a master artist's style and personality from looking at their sketches rather than their finished works

it struck me that maybe the same idea carries through with the original drafts of writings

in terms of the philosophy of art, or even just creative philosophical writing (kind of "painting with words" stuff, if you will) check out various essays/books by Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Camus, Heraclitus, Aristotle


but my gut tells me that if you're truly committed to truffle hunting the best sources of inspiration, you'll find it in just about everything you are capable of absorbing... night anons.
