How To Draw and Render by Scott Robertson.
>>
>>2742538
It entirely depends on whether or not you post the link to the book that mary sue animu came from
>>
it's on the webpage.

I was looking for the actual syllabus per course, like what the suggested books were, the schedule they give their students, etc.

Not the Diploma Outline
>>
>>2742561
sure, that'll be 40,000 SGD (33,000 for singaporean students)

He literally only recommends Robertson. Thank you for spending 400,000,000 Singaporean dollaroos.

I just want to speak with feng about opening studios and actually making money with art.
>>
>>2742561
They don't use any particular books iirc (from a Q&A he did). Mostly just printouts and lectures. But yeah he does plug How to Draw + Render a lot (Loomis has also received his approval)
>>
>>2742538

http://artofginachang.blogspot.com/

And generally search for "viscom blogspot" on google, some students uploaded their complete assigments.

Search also archives for FZD threads, not so long ago there were few FZD students who explained a lot.

But yeah, generally it's Scott Robertson + photobashing + paintovers + stupid not sleeping.
>>
>>2742561
It's on the website. Seriously, even the schedule. It's a big hard to find, but it's there. Feng only teaches three classes a week while the other two teach double the amount. It's the same syllabus because you can see the same power point in their class photo.

Ok so after looking through FZD's course outline, I wrote myself a list of books to go through to learn the fundamentals that I think mirrors their courses. Are there any books you guys recommend I add/remove to this list?

1. Pespective Made Easy, Ernest Norling
2. How to Draw, Scott Robertson
3. How to Render, Scott Robertson
4. Drawing the Head and Hands, Loomis
5. Figure Drawing for All its Worth, Loomis
6. Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist, Stephen Rogers Peck
7. Animal Anatomy for Artists: The Elements of Form, Eliot Goldfinger
8. Drawing the Clothed Figure, Michael Massen
9. Creative Illustration, Loomis

Is this your only book other than Loomis for the figure? Add in some Bridgman, Hampton, and Vilppu.

>7. Animal Anatomy for Artists: The Elements of Form, Eliot Goldfinger
This won't really teach you to draw animals very well. It's a very dry book that just shows the anatomy in a pretty flat way by things like showing single muscles on a bone and has just pages filled with labels for every tiny muscle that are all shortened so you need to translate what they are in your head. I don't think any of the drawings show the forms well at all. If you want to draw and construct animals then use Hultgren's book which isn't as anatomy intensive but is heavy on construction and form and gesture/posing.

Do you think FZD has some magical course or something? Look at Art Center, Gnomon, Concept Design Academy, hell, even CGMA. They all have the same curriculum.

The "unique" thing about FZD is that they cram it all into one year by giving their students huge quantities of homework and providing them with lots of access to instructors for consistent feedback. That's not something you can replicate at home.

Art Center and any other good school does the same with overloading you with homework, except they continue it for 4 years so you can actually cover each topic in depth instead of just skimming the surface of it.
>>
>>2743210
Sure, but the point still stands. The syllabus is not what students are paying for.
>>
>>2743221
No, but the syllabus is still solid enough. If you are trying to teach yourself the same material then it makes sense to model it after what they teach.

Of course I cannot replicate the same quality of work at home. I am just looking for a proven structure to base my own studies on.

Thank you for your help, I edited my list to incorporate what you said:

1. Pespective Made Easy, Ernest Norling
2. How to Draw, Scott Robertson
3. How to Render, Scott Robertson
4. Drawing the Head and Hands, Loomis
5. Figure Drawing for All its Worth, Loomis
6. Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist, Stephen Rogers Peck
7. Drawing the Clothed Figure, Michael Massen
8. Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life, Bridgman
| Figure Drawing: Design and Invention, Michael Hampton
9. Art of Animal Drawing, Hultgren
10. Creative Illustration, Loomis

If anyone else has some critique on the order/content of my list please let me know.

it's weird that there's no book for vis com/dynamic sketching yet

how to draw is close, i suppose, but it takes a very technical, plotted approach
>>
>>2743241
Dynamic Bible.
>>
>>2743311
that's more like an art book or a sketchbook, it's very vague and doesn't include a lot of the stuff that's talked about in the actual course
