What does /ic/ think of artists like Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud?
That image on the left hurts physically to watch.
It reminds me of one of those days when I'm not inspired at all and I only draw total shit because I can't focus. So fucking sad to look at. I hope to never fall to that level.

With that being said by you, I personally think Bacon was a good mark maker, especially with the fact that he would take a lot of risks and do swift singular brush strokes.
I see how you feel but if you take a look through his work there are some things you might appreciate.
>>2737238
The one on the left isn't necessarily bad though. It's actually quite good, just unfinished.
>>2737236
Not my thing, but I'm sure they're revolutionary or whatever and I look like a fucking ignoramous for saying that.
Right ones alright, but artists who fetishize the folds of the flesh just run contrary to my biases of drawing incredibly good looking people.

>but artists who fetishize the folds of the flesh just run contrary to my biases of drawing incredibly good looking people.
lol ok

God-tier
>>2737236
They are both God-tier. Frank Auerbach also is awesome.

It's fair enough if it's "not your thing", you would have looked like an ignoramus if you had just outright said it's shit
Their best work looks ok to me.
I strongly dislike the texture in Lucian Freud's paintings though.

>That image on the left hurts physically to watch.
That's the idea

They could both make amazing pieces showing off their technical skills, but choose to draw trash as to create recognizable art.
These artists are nothing past narcissists.

>They could both make amazing pieces showing off their technical skills, but choose to draw trash as to create recognizable art.
the concept artist mind in a nutshell
>>2738023
>Technical skills
Art isn't just about skill circlejerking, brother.
>>2738179
Abandoning technical skills is like learning to play like Paganini, then serving up out of tune codswallop to the public while claiming it's 'muh style'.
>>2738023
Oh God, you are for real, aren't you?
>guaranteed replies!
>>2738346
>abandoning technical skills
expect they aren't your retard, they are just using it to create something that doesn't aim to enter the realm of realism
that's like saying impressionist "abandoned" their technical skills because it look like shit if you look at it from less than 6 meters away
>>2737236
I don't much care for Bacon personally but I can see why some people would like him. I think he's a bit overrated still.
I love Freud's work though, it's very direct and honest and you can tell he is observing with intense concentration at all times while painting.

muh art. muh feelings.

>>2740880
muh autism. muh what are emotions?
>>2740880
Dumb anon is dumb.
maybe they use enough realism and traditional technique for the babbys on this board to tolerate them
